Pavlik was certainly expected to win, but it was in no way considered a "joke" fight. Either way, Pavlik brought things to the table that Rubio won't have to deal with against Golovkin: reach and defense.
GGG has very good defense if he wants too. He is so sure of his power and chin he oftentimes forgoes defense
At the end of the day we still dont know how good GGG is so this is a good yard stick. Pavlik stopped him in i think 5 and he took im pretty sure he took chavez jr the distance. So if GGG is as good as people say which im still not too sure about buti hope im wrong, he shuld manage to take him out in the first half of the fight.
Kelly stopped him in 9, but didn't KO him the corner didn't think he could win so they stopped the fight.
It was considered a joke fight and I remember it very well. Rubio looked mediocre at best in his eliminator fight against Ornelas which was on the undercard of Hopkins-Pavlik. People gave that fight a pass because Pavlik was coming off a loss(not at Middleweight, obviously) and Rubio was his WBC mandatory. However, everyone knew Rubio had no chance in hell and the odds proved it.
hagler, monzon and robinson aren't available while froch, cotto, quillin and chavez are chicken shits so this is the fight we get. why come you don't sign in as sweetscimoron anymore, btw? russell and porter bust that hot air balloon?
