Sorry if this has already been threaded on, but just watched the GGG Rubio fight on the youtube, and witnessed the worst ref count I've ever seen. First, he picked up the count at 4, when it should've been 3, then he rushed through 9 and 10. Go ahead and watch and start counting from the moment Rubio hits canvas, and you'll see he's up by 8. I suppose it's academic, because GGG would've finished him anyway, but I'm just sayin' - bad count.
It wasn't great.. However if you watch the replay and count back yourself Rubio clearly wasn't 'on his feet and ready to continue' as stipulated. It's kinda a shame. I woulda preferred both the Rubio fight (although I'm 95% sure MAR wouldn't have made it through the rest of the round) and the Geale fight (where I think his shake of his head was more to do with clearing it that signalling he didn't want to continue) be allowed to continue to a more unquestionable conclusion. Nonetheless, the trajectory of both fights was clear, it's just - well the underdog should be given the opportunity in my eyes and as a GGG fan I felt both victories slightly tarnished.
He was right to waive off Rubio, so he made the right call in the end. There was no way Rubio should have continued looking like he did.
Honestly the way it looked to me was that Rubio took his time getting up because he didn't want to get up. He made the effort to look like he wanted to keep fighting so fans wouldn't call him on it, but he looked quite content after fight. Anyhow that's how his body language looked to me, who knows.
