GGG vs SRL

oh get away from me. i know about the history of boxing, dont just spurt out names and superlatives.

Breaking it down, ggg gives leonard a hard fight, and unlike stupid Hagler, who chose to box leonard orthodox, he was that confident, leonard was gassing late, hagler got success. ggg would be on full pedal throughout the fight. ggg is stronger than hagler, and they are both stronger then leonard. hagler fought a stupid fight that many thought he won, i didnt. he gave away rounds. leonard wasnt looking to hurt hagler, he shoeshined. hagler was enraged, he couldnt get a foothold, he wasnt landing clinical punches. ggg would be more like chavez sr and break leonard down gradually picking punches, body punching, shoves. etc etc hagler fought like an angry frustrated character against on of the best matadors ever.

you need to learn that throwing names out, without breaking down fights logically isnt a good comeback. also ggg will cripple canelo.

Golovkin is a career middleweight.
SRL was never a proper middleweight.

So the question is stupið andirrelevant.

Leonard is to quick with both hands and feet for GGG. Leonard would win a hard fought UD.

WHAT, this is getting ridiculous. You're pitting an ATG considered one of the best pound for pounds of all time against a fighter that hasn't fought a pound for pound fighter. I don't even know where to start, with the 15 round preparation or that SRL fought stronger and harder hitters and won.

 

That's true, however SRL's middleweight run isn't nearly as impressive as his run at lighter weights.

By the time he grew into middleweight he'd passed his best as a fighter.

Whereas looking at Golovkin, he's a natural MW, enjoys an additional size advantage due to no same day weigh in (although I reckon he'd probably handle that fine) and looks absolutely devastating at the weight.

SRL could well outbox him, but it would have to be a great performance. At MW I think I'd give GGG a slight edge, without a lot of confidence, it must be added.

 

I absolutely get this line of reason. Ray only campaigned north of 147 lbs around 7 or 8 times in his career I believe, so to call him a career WW would be pretty accurate.

What really hurt SRL's career was the detached retina issue which essentially had him coming back intermittently for the next 10 years or so of his career. Who really knows how many fights he would've had at JMW and MW, but the eye issue changed his career trajectory greatly.

He does hold some excellent wins north of WW. Him beating Hagler (albeit an older version who just had that brutal war with Mugabi,) and also beating Lalonde for the SMW and LHW belts were impressive.

I look at this hypothetical matchup and believe Leonard would be able to pull out a decision, and I use Tommy Hearns as an example of why. Hearns had terrific power from WW to MW, and while he gave Leonard all types of problems in their matches, leonard was able to beat him the first time around when both men were squarely in their primes. Aside from having similar power, I think Hearns is faster and arguably a better boxer than Gennady is. If Leonard could take a prime, undefeated Hearns' best shots and keep going forward, than I'd imagine he would be able to take Gennady's best shots as well.

If SRL decides to move in and out and not stay in the pocket too long, I think he'd have a good shot to UD him in a competitive match.
