Kirkland is an exciting fighter and a good name for 3G's resume even if he's a jr mw. He has good wins over Vera, Angulo and Molina and 1 loss by K.O 1 vs Ishida. Yeah, I'd have liked to see 3G vs Murray , Rubio or Geale but is it what is it. At the end of the day this will be an exciting boxing match due of the styles and that is what really matters. :good
The vast majority of predictions in this will be GGG by KO in the first round. That's mine too. You simply do not fight GGG with reckless abandonment like Kirkland does and expect to be conscious for very long.
The bookies will be overwhelmed by GGG KO1 predictions like Hans above me already said. And I would be really surprised if James got past round 3. This is as predictable as Arreola vs Mitchell from a couple of months back.
Geale still in the cards as well per Hershman. That being the case, I think Kirkland is probably a business ploy as much as anything. Geale avoided GGG for decent money when he had titles, or even a Barker rematch queued (even though he could have fought GGG at MC and still had Barker queued had Barkers career not been ended) Apparently Geale trying to negotiate like he still has a title. So GGG camp asking "why should you still get a big payday and favorable terms when GGG is the one HBO is backing. We can get much more popular US fighters in the ring much cheaper." (per Oleg) Which makes sense, Kirkland will come relatively cheap with few extra demands- and pack MSG Theatre and probably 1.5m+ viewers. Geale just makes us boxing heads happy, and maybe helps with getting other unification bouts down the line. Beltless, and now needing GGG far more than the reverse, they dont want to overpay. I still think if Geale camp folds, GGG takes that fight though. And if not, he will get the ratings fight instead of the credibility fight. But once you have a premium network behind you, its the ratings more than the critical acclaim that lands you the big fights anyway. So, win for Golovkin either way.
He'll pass of 3rd round. Kirklands chin is not that bad as some people think. Yeah, he got caught cold by Ishida but these kind of shits happen in this sport. Many good boxers got K.O'd in the early rounds. After the Ishida fight Kirkland beat Angulo (hard hitter) and Molina, so the dude proved he's a solid fighter who was able to comeback after a big loss and beat 2 solid jr mw fighters. :good
I wonder if 3G's team tried to negotiate with Rubio ? :think That would be an exciting fight IMO. :yep
yuuup, kirkland got tagged so many times in the first rd vs Tapia he eye was badly swollen after only 1 rd. GGG's power probably puts him away very early. That said if he can somehow last a few rounds he might present a new kind of challenge that GGG hasn't faced yet, but I really don't see him getting past the early rounds.
ya, kirkland is a more interesting fight than geale and i'll happily add it to my collection of triple g's beatdowns.
kirkland is with a good team now so jackson is not going to put him in with ggg james has as much potential at 154 than anybody else other than maybe lara. and for all the clueless people that dont know anything about boxing james will be the buy of the year if gbp is stupid enough to put canelo in with him as kirkland will open as a +300 when it is a pick'em fight at best for alvarez. in fact, since the judges are in all lieklihood not going to be a factor in the outcome kirkland should be the favorite and thats why the overrated canelo alvarez wont be fighting the underrated james kirkland
wow, you already know the opponent, the line, favorite and outcome. but i'm too clueless to determine whether that's mad skills or not.
