Quite a loaded question, I bet if anyone picks Golovkin you'd go in a frenzy about how he's not beaten anybody and can't be compared to ATGs, and you'd be right, it's pretty pointless really at this point to make these kind of comparisons and I'm not sure why this obsession people have for Golovkin in fantasy match ups against legends of the past.
Nah... IM not like that, i just want to hear a well thought out opinion on why GGG would beat someone of Hearns' caliber. we've already seen GGG win hypothetical Matchups against Roy, Bhop, Taylor, Pavlik, Hagler, Leonard, Robinson, He wins them all. I want to see if Hearns poses a different kind of challenge in this Hypothetical Matchup.. I dont always think ATGs from the past can beat the Fighters of today, because there is always different factors on judging such a hypothetical fight IMO.. Like for example, I think De LA Hoya beats Duran imo...
IDK man.. Pavlik could take a punch and give a punch.. I can see GGG being aggresive and take a Massive right hand or right uppercut from Pavlik and go down.. Pavlik had very solid fundamentals and against a fighter like GGG who likes to throw wide shots at times, a straight right counter down the Pipe and with the power Kelly generates could be lights out for GGG, or at least a Knockdown. Its not out of the question in my opinion..
Both Hearns' and Golovkin's chin would play a huge part in this bout, like it did in the Hagler bout. Hearns insane reach, skill and big power would probably be enough to outbox GGG, but if he gets caught clean or dropped too many times Golovkin can certainly win. I would favor The Hitman by decision or late stoppage, but Golovkin certainly would have a chance against him.
Damnation. You had to post it twice?:rofl You start out critical of people discussing GGG vs past fighter, then ask about GGG vs a fighter from the past. That is pants on head stupid
"Those" goons do it. Actual fights that can happen>Fantasy fights I don't even like talking Haymon fighters vs non Haymon fighters. I prefer reality
Me as well, but on a Boxing Forum there is no Realm Of Reality, and we have to treat it as such.. It is what it is.
What you may have missed is that the vast majority of GGG vs (insert ATG) fantasy match-ups are simple troll threads and are often responded to with appropriate frivolity - tbh this thread could prolly be filed alongside them. As has already been pointed out in the absence of a time machine all that is left is pure speculation, subjective opinion and the eye-test. The venerated status accorded to greats like Hearns or Hagler is pretty much guaranteed to generate controversy in any speculative match up with a contemporary fighter, which is, of course, the point. FWIW tho it is a fight a would very much have liked to see. Let me pose a counter question - which of the Hitman's opponents does GGG most resemble stylistically, in your opinion?
GGG by late KO, most likely GGG hits harder than Hagler and Leonard and is better at cutting off the ring than they were
