'Middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin, who was so impressive on Saturday night when he scored three knockdowns and blew away European champion Grzegorz Proksa in the fifth round of his American and HBO debut, has dreams of facing the winner of the fight between lineal middleweight champion Sergio Martinez and titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Martinez and Chavez square off Sept. 15 (HBO PPV) at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas in one of the year's biggest fights. So Golovkin will be an interested viewer, even though his chances of getting a fight with Chavez are remote, at best, if Chavez wins. A fight with Martinez figures to be easier to make, but it's certainly no guarantee.

After Golovkin's recent performance, nobody in the 160-pound division will be rushing to fight him. Golovkin also said he is willing to fight anyone at junior middleweight or super middleweight.

But his focus is on the middleweight division, where he happens to be the mandatory challenger for so-called "super" unified titleholder Daniel Geale. Golovkin gave his take on the Martinez-Chavez showdown:

"For the fight on Sept. 15 between Chavez Jr. and Martinez, I think it's a 50-50 fight," Golovkin said. "Sergio has better skills, but Chavez Jr. is younger and seems to be getting stronger with each fight. I look forward to viewing the Chavez Jr.-Martinez fight."

That would be ideal. I really hope Martinez goes for it, he's getting his payday vs Chavez. Forget about lil Floyd and lil Pac.

This is the fight that should happen. It was ridiculous Kellerman asked him about moving up in weight, as good as he has looked at mw.

There would be nobody left that is really worthy, to fight Chavez or Martinez winner. The division would be swept clean by one of em if they took this fight right after.

Think i'd like to see GGG against guys like Darren Barker and Matthew Macklin. If he beats them then he could face the winner of Martinez-JCC Jr.

Look at sly JCC Jr. moving up so he doesn't have to face challenges i.e. GGG.

That's not very fair at all. Chavez Jr is fighting the clear number one and it's evidently obvious he's too big for middleweight.

Forgetting Lil Floyd or Lil Pac will never happen because that is his golden ticket to retirement. In a fantasy world all the best fighters will fight the best but that is not the way things work. G Cubed will get his shot at the big boys, HBO got his back and he will become a big draw making it hard for anyone between 154 and 168 to ignore (except PBF and Pac of course) . . . it might not happen tomorrow but i can see him becoming one of the major players down the road. I would pick the sexy one over GGG because of his athleticism but I think JCC would be all wrong for him because Jr is such a big man it would force GGG to fight of his back foot which I think would be his weakness.

Wouldn't happen ggg is all hype and if u beat him it carries no weight on ur resume. Sergio was worth the risk because he is a p4p star so beating Martinez would be a huge reward and if either Martinez or Jr beat ggg they will just say another euro bum exposed.
