Canelo is a big boy, look at his weight fight night.

P.s. i dont support catch weights, thet ruin boxing, same as alphabet belts.

Pacman could have fought Cotto at 147. Cotto looked like death at 145.

I didn’t see this coming either. Canelo felt like the WBC wasn’t respecting him. He has a point. We are barely week and a half since his win over Khan, and the WBC President is already threatening him if the GGG fight isn’t made by May 24th.

Think about that for a second. Don’t you think Canelo deserves a few weeks vacation, before getting into GGG negotiations?

This is about Canelo being disrespected by the WBC. It seemed like Canelo was very willing to make the fight with GGG, but after a well deserved vacation. Canelo shouldn’t be forced to strike a deal by May 24th. That’s ridiculous !

Then for the WBC to immediately declare GGG is the WBC Champ? It’s a joke. I think Canelo has a lot of pride and felt like he was disrespected by the WBC with the May 24th deadline. There should have been more respect given to Canelo by the WBC, to allow him a reasonable amount of time to make the GGG fight.

im disappointed in canelo, i could have given him a pass for dropping the belt, if it wasnt for that whole "mexicans dont turn tail" speech after the khan fight.
im hoping that this is oscars way of saving canelo the sanctioning fees. they are now free to negotiate the fight on their own terms and it will still be for the title of best middleweight in the world and top money draw in the sport. this fight will make the winner a superstar.

N17, I don't think you are going to get s logical response. Apparently, the middleweight weight champion shouldn't have to defend his belt because the guy he was scared talked about fighting bigger guys.

Blame the WBC for creating "interim" WBC championships.

We think of the middleweight champions as.....
    Hopkins-Taylor-Pavlik-Martinez-Cotto-Alvarez

But in the middle of Pavlik's reign went he went up in weight to fight Hopkins, so the WBC gave the winner of Zbik/Spada the interim WBC championship.

So, Zbik-Chavez Jr.- Rubio-Golovkin went the "other" WBC championship.

Chavez Jr. actually held the WBC title when the fought the WBC champion in Martinez and lost. What happened to the interim title if Martinez won it from Chavez? The WBC gave it to the winner of Rubio/Spada.

Blame the WBC for having the World Champion, the Interim Champion, the Silver Champion, the Diamond Champion, the International Champion, the Continental Americas Champion, the Fecombox champion and the Latino Champion.

You maybe rate Golovkin higher than I do.

I don't think everyone at MW will continually avoid him. I think the fights will happen eventually and he should stick around.

Unlike you I don't feel he'll be as successful at SMW,that should be a swansong once he's done with business at 160.

On May 17th 2016, was GGG the “interim” WBC champion? No, Canelo was the Full WBC Champion! There was no interim WBC champion. But then Canelo vacated it, and within minutes GGG is crowned as the Full WBC Champion?

Triple G should have to win a fight in a ring to capture that title. Even in the example you give below with Pavlik moving up to fight Hopkins, at least there was a FIGHT (between two boxers) for that “interim” title.

All this doesn’t explain or defend what happened here with Triple G becoming “Unified” MW champ without ever fighting for it. That’s not how ANYONE wants to become unified MW champion. GGG’s path to becoming unified champion required him to defeat Canelo. (or at least vs SOMEONE else highly ranked if the fight wasn’t made) That’s what boxing fans were excited about, that’s what we ALL wanted to see. Now with GGG having all the titles by such sleazy means, it just hurts boxing.

Canelo vacated the title due to Sulaiman giving Canelo an ultimatum. (make the fight by May 24th or else) Canelo seemed very willing to make the fight with GGG happen, he should have had a reasonable amount of time to do so.

Now GGG is unified champion without ever fighting Canelo? This is stupid and takes much of the intrigue out of Canelo vs GGG if it ever happens.

Sulaiman should lose his job for pulling this stunt and putting extra pressure on Canelo giving him a ridiculous timetable to make the fight. Canelo is fresh off a big win over Amir Khan, how can you expect him to finalize negotiations with GGG in 2 weeks? This seriously sucks for boxing, I’m just hugely bummed because I was really looking forward to seeing a megafight and a true unification fight at MW.

Now GGG is apparently the unified MW Champion .. not by winning a MegaFight, no but by being handed a title he hasn’t ever fought for. Great job GGG, way to unify those titles. Like this.

I've never spoken to you before, but I know your not stupid enough to blame Golovkin for Canelo first demanding a catch weight and then vacating his belt.
