I have been a fan since he won WC's in Thailand so I am not taking a shot at him by any means. It's just a cold hard fact of boxing and the WBC has mandatory VADA for it's champs and top contenders. A lot of top boxers are starting to avoid the WBC for this reason. I am not sure if WBC makes their champs do year around VADA but they must do it pre fight however FFF does year around VADA and I wonder if that was a condition of his signing that 25 million dollar sponsorship deal with Jordan.
Yep, it's not something to talk about but I think it's apparent he's been clean for a while whilst his opponents have clearly been on PED's. I don't think people realise the importance of this, facing the top two fighters in your division who are using PED's and are at their absolute peak physically, all while being a drug free 35 year old is an amazing feat.
Imo GGG looked completely out of character. At first he was getting completely outboxed and then he was missing most of his shots in the middle rounds. Yes Canelo seemed to tire, the added muscles were a factor likely, and Canelo pressed him hard, but Canelo landed the best punches through the fight. Not once did I see Canelo hurt. Not sure what round youre talking about. Hurt to me is being on ***** street or becoming vulnerble. Did GGG land a good punch that Canelo felt? Sure, a small handful of times. Canelo's counterpunching had GGG very hesitant to go all out like he did agaisnt Brook. I gave Canelo the first 3 rds and the last 3 rds from what I remember, but I didnt score it so Ill have to watch it again. Many rounds were also close. 3g has a nice jab, it even marked up canelo a bit, but in the power punching department despite GGG landing almost as much, it was Canelo all the way. His body work and his counter hooks. It was a very close fight, credit to both men. Ggg deserves a lot of praise for withstanding Canelo's biggest punches.
8 rounds to 4 Golovkin, same as Harold Lederman. I saw Alvarez get hurt, in fact Alvarez is claiming that he got injured and wants to have a tuneup before a rematch, might not want a rematch. Alvarez did not have to take a drug test, but Golovkin always has to, it's time for other boxers to take drug tests as well. He was not hurt...............he turns his head with the punches, does not take full impact usually, Alvarez did get hurt, I saw it.
'Hurt' is so subjective. Canelo was never rocked at any point. I'll have to re-watch if I were to give you the specific examples but there were a couple of times he looked like he was backed up or chose to hold as a result of being hurt, but not in such a way I ever thought he was likely to go down. He showed very solid whiskers indeed
And yet canelo was the one not in a hurry for a rematch at the press conference and wants the rest of the year off and then will decide what's next. GGG when asked for a rematch said of course.
I think canelo left his soul in the ring for that fight just trying to survive and make it halfway competitive. I actually don't see canelo ever being the same again.
It was plain to see that ggg has aged his timing is off he's overthinking and not let his shots go as easy but he still got all in canelo's ass. Canelo will have to give it another year go away pump himself full of peds try and find some **** to really help with his shitty stamina.
Canelos game plan was always just to survive and move as Jacobs proved can be done but it's not how to beat ggg. He needs to actually go toe to toe with ggg and hope for the best but will most likely get ktfo.
A rematch is a must and this fight's result is hardly a "black eye for the sport". You guys are trying to make it sound like this fight is similar to Holyfield vs Lewis I or Chavez Sr. vs Whitaker and it's not even close to those fights in ANY way.
GGG needed to go toe-to-toe with Canelo yet he didn't and wouldn't. . Wasn't G meant to be an ATG ring cutter? Why couldn't he corner off the smaller guy and take him out?
