Golovkin would have stopped Brook in that round or the next, Brook looked done to me, he was surviving the 5th, he was back peddling and not really throwing shots, he was there to be stopped at that point and Golovkin sensed it and stepped it up. Dominic Ingle has known Brook since he was a child, he knew what he was watching, Brook was struggling badly in the 5th and he didn't want to see him rolled out or seriously hurt and he made the right decision in my opinion.
From my eyes, in the moment, I noticed GGG was displeased the moment he realized the towel was thrown because he knew he had Brook hurt and it was just a matter of time before he had the rightful KO. It robbed him of settling it the right way. But all credit to Brook. Dude is a straight up warrior. To take this fight had to send SOME message to GGG that this was a different cat.
Hats off to both guys. Hell of a fight, massive respect to Brook - his stocks can't have dropped from that fight. The writing was on the wall, I think that fight was going to be a GGG stoppage but Brook weathered a hell of a lot of pummelling and the warrior in him would have kept going if he were physically able. Definitely not an outcome to derail his career!
I think Brook would have lasted the 5th (perhaps being knocked down) but been knocked out in the 6th had Ingle not jumped in.
Brook is an animal. He is a top fighter. Couldn't believe some of the stuff he was nailing Golovkin with. But Golovkin is special and can't wait for him to wreck Alvarez
Golovkin was obviously sick or drained, he was sloppy and angry that he was getting tagged, he was intent on injuring Brook if the stoppage didn't come, he was loading up and trying to take his head off
Brook said he was seeing triple after the 2nd round. His eye had a broken eye socket and it was a matter of time. Any further damage could have permanently damaged Brook. They way GGG puts on the pressure is pretty incredible to watch. Brook couldn't get away at all and GGG was in always in punching position no matter where Brook ran to.
brook was close to helpless at that point, he was taking huge shots and was unable, or unwilling, to put his hands up to protect himself. he knew his corner was watching and was ready to throw in the towel, they had just talked about it in between rounds. he chose to go out in a defiant gesture of false bravado.
Brook suffered an eye socket fracture, it has been confirmed, no way could he have continued, would have ended his entire career and health..................
Would he stop him in a few rounds? No, because I doubt he would of made it out of that 5th had the towel not been thrown in. He was a sitting duck by then, was throwing nothing back. Even if his epic chin kept him standing the ref would of stopped it, he was throwing nothing back and any decent ref will stop a fight once it becomes clear a man can no longer defend himself.
If golovkin hadn't have blinded Brook then Kell would probably have won the fight. Even with he injury it would've been good to let him see out the 5th and assessed him in the break. I think a rematch with brook more used to the weight would result in a comfortable victory for the Sheffield fighter.
Golovkin broke Brook's eye socket with a left hook...................a legal punch.....................
