For a period of time, there was A LOT of activity and buzz related to GGG because his name was connected to Floyd Mayweather. Kellerman, Hagler, Leonard and a bunch of big names in boxing were calling for Floyd Mayweather to fight GGG for his 50th fight. The boxing media was asking GGG and Floyd if they would fight each other. Now, the Mayweather GGG buzz has warn off as its very likely that they will NEVER fight each other. GGG's name was connected to Cotto for a year while Cotto was the MW champ and GGG was his mandatory. Ever since Canelo won the belt, GGG's name has been connected to Canelo, with the boxing media linking the two fighters together. Now that it seems like this fight wont happen this year, the buzz has warn off. Lastly, GGG name was connected to Ward. Now that Ward has moved up to 175, this fight is no longer possible and this buzz has warn off. GGG will no longer be connected to Mayweather, Cotto or Ward. Public interest in Golovkin will now begin to decline. If Canelo succesfully ducks GGG for the next 2 years then GGG will simply be left without a star dance partner and will be fighting BJS, Jacobs level fighters. Efen worse are the Johnson, Heiland level fighters. GGG should just move up to 168 before he gets too damn old and starts slowing down.
GGG's career has been handled HORRIBLY. Here is a guy who had everything going his way, he had the Mexican fans supporting him, he had L.A. backing him, he has the style to excite people, and the persona to sell his fights, BUT he continues to stay at 160 and prey on no hopers... Agreed, his stock has declined. AT this point he wouldn't even sell 97K for a PPV.. Alls he needed to do was step away from his comfort zone for a fight or two and prove he is a warrior who isn't afraid of challenges.
Whoever is managing GGG's career is dropping the ball. Wade has to overperform for it not to be a crisis in their camp.
And this post is coming from a REAL GGG fan. I bought his PPV. I've been to 3 of his LA fights. Im going to his next fight. I believe he's a real good fuccin fighter. But for his star power its seems as the momentum has reversed course to the down side. He needs a name.
I think hes a real good fighter too just wanna know how good...want him to prove it yet all of his fanboys seem ok if he stays the current course...they make every excuse for him to not make a concession for a big fight/name.....and its strange because ive seen them demand that of fighters who have proven a lot more than ggg has
I was a GGG fan too, and watched him against Rubio and rooted for him along with everyone else at StubHub, but fans aren't stupid, he needs to move up or down to get a real challenge, until he decides to do as many of the ATGs did and moves outside his comfort zone his stock will continue to drop.
there isn't a single GGG fan on this forum who doesn't want GGG to fight the best, they just don't want him getting screwed around by the dishonourable and cowardly. if he'd known canelo was gonna be such a disingenuous little ***** over fighting him, maybe he would've moved up back when ward was at 168? at this point there's no reason to move up though, ward is no longer there and that division is worse than 160. 154 isn't great either, especially if you don't genuinely believe canelo wants to fight him at *any* weight, which... well, there's no reason to believe he does right now. they're clearly stalling 'til he gets a little older and slower, or so it seems to me. it's just a shame canelo's not willing to man up and drop his farcical middleweight belt.
Some author a few months back said that GGG would have been better off chasing the Ward fight as Ward was more open to fighting Golovkin then Canelo ever was. It was always seemed that Canelo wanted nothing to Do with Golovkin. At least for now. Hopefully Saunders and Jacobs can get made. Eubank Jr would be good too. At 168 Theres Degale, Bute, Ramirez, Jack.
