GGG's pickhammer jab and his great footwork would be too much for RJJ of 1993

Indeed. People are blinded and nostalgic about RJJ's flashy and athletic style. He was a phenomenon back then but GGG has great fundamentals and he would be in RJJ face all the time with that solid jab and his powerful left hook. :good

Lemieux, Murray, Geale, Rosado and Stevens would be top 160 lbs contenders back then too.

Yep. People see only flashyness in '93 RJJ's style but that worked against fighters with poor fundamentals.

Roy Jones jr. was special fighter but so is Golovkin. Golovkin has much better fundamentals, better footwork and his defense isn´t that bad either. He also has granite chin which is one of the biggest difference between these two.

Roy Jones jr. was very fast and he is bigger but his workrate was low and that is why, you can be sure he wouldn't get Golovkin off of him. That means Roy would get hit a lot more than he was used to.

This thread is legit but it´s very difficult to imagine who would win. Both are special talents.

I don't think a '93 RJJ would be able to show his greatness against GGG. I'm not comparing a prime RJJ with Monroe Jr but I want people to see how GGG closes the distance and throws his left hook against an athletic fighter. Also look carefully on how GGG works and chop his opponent down with footwork, angles and positioning for his punches. I think he would be in RJJ's face all the time and be able to connect that left hook. Don't forget that GGG has a good defense for his offensive style and he can take a solid punch.

I think a 2001 Hopkins would give problems to GGG. That fight would be tough and ugly for GGG.

How would he have made him fight his fight?

How would he have coped with Roy's hand speed, leaping in, throwing unexpected flurries from different angles?

    Roy's fought technical fighters before.

Who has GG ever fought that possessed even half of the speed that Roy had?

Yeah, GG would have knocked out both Roy and Toney.

As the fights against Murray, Geale and Lemieux etc clearly demonstrate.

    :patsch

    How ironic.

You're saying that people are blinded by nostalgia and hype, yet you'd have favoured GG who as yet has beaten nobody even close to the level of Roy or Toney etc.

    It's a joke.

Was Roy easy to hit clean? No.

Is GG easy to hit clean? Yes.

Was Roy fast? Yes. His speed was otherworldly.

    Is GG fast? Not particularly.

It's ridiculous to favour GG at this stage, and assume he'd have cut the ring off and took Roy out.

There's no evidence to support that theory.

    1. How has GG got better footwork?

    2. GG's easy enough to hit, whereas Roy wasn't.

    3. Roy never had to fight at a fast pace due to his incredible speed and power.

    4. What makes you think GG would have been on him? How would he have coped with Roy's wide punch variation along with his incredible athleticism?
