GGG's pickhammer jab and his great footwork would be too much for RJJ of 1993

What's the point in showing us how he dealt with Munroe, when a prime version of Roy was on another planet?

What makes you so sure he could have connected a left hook on Roy? He isn't fast and Roy had insane reflexes.

GG hasn't got a particularly good defence.

Here's what Roy did to Thomas Tate, who was of a similar level to most of GG's opponents, and who'd gone 12 rounds with Julian Jackson:

You're seriously telling me that you'd have favoured GG over that version of Roy?

When considering where GGG fits in with the all-time greats it's worth considering the names on his boxing record, or the lack of them to be more precise. Who's he fought who any of us would consider to be elite level?

@ min 16:00 RJJ stopped using his variation and his athleticism and he got K.O'ed.

GGG would've found that glass chin and brake it too.:good

Roy wasn't ready at 160 to take out GGG. It's the wrong blend of style, experience, attributes, and timing.

As it stands, alot of credit is going to Roy for what he did in different weightclasses (which was genuinely great) and the revisionism of how big the Hopkins win looks because of what Bernard grew into years later, not because of what Hopkins was at the time. Bernard didn't beat a ranked middleweight until a couple years later and it took him 3 times to win a belt. There was no hype going into that fight with the notable exception of the "Roy fighting for his first title" storyline.

Over time, GG could could belong in the company of the great MW's of the past.

At the moment, he's a way off.

You're seriously showing Roy getting knocked out against Tarver at 35, after dropping back from HW in his 51st fight, as proof as what would have happened if Roy had fought GG at 25?

    Good one.

    I've now changed my mind.

You say you're not comparing Monroe Jr with Roy Jones, but you are. Your observations on GGG and how he might have approached a RJJ fight are really interesting and informative but until GGG faces a truly elite fighter you can't make a valid case for him dealing with an all-time great. Let's see how he handles Saúl Álvarez first...

How many times have we gone at this?

    I hope you've had a good Christmas.

How could Roy at 25, not have been ready for GG? He went up to fight Toney just months after destroying Tate.

I really don't understand the steadfast opinions.

Although GG looks great, he isn't particularly fast, and he's easy enough to hit. Whereas, Roy was incredibly fast, and very hard to hit clean. In my opinion, Roy had more attributes and he would had to have been favoured, until GG does more.

I also stand by my opinion, that GG hasn't fought anyone as good as the 28 year old version of Hopkins that Roy beat with a fractured hand.

It's not GGG's fault that Canelo, BJS and Jacobs are avoiding him like plague and wait for him to look old and beatable.

GGG would put a beating on these 3 guys and still won't get his well deserved props.:-(
