Hmm well Freddie Roach "drools" over it. Every time he's asked about GGG, he talks about how he's the best fighter at cutting the ring that he's seen.
Must be so demoralising being in the ring with him as soon as you realise he is just going to walk through everything you throw at him. He expends so little energy getting into position. Must be mentally draining as well trying to catch a 5 second breather.
He does cut off the ring really well, better than anyone else I can think of at the moment. But he's really not faced a good mover or an elite fighter who can find strategies to deal with the pressure he can apply. Someone with better movement may prove harder to pressure and a better fighter may know how to clinch and turn him when cornered leaving them with the position and space to move away. We will just have to wait and see what happens when he raises the level of opposition.
People saying "oh but he only faced stiffs", well no he hasn't, he has fought top middleweights, and by that point I think you can make a fairly good assessment of someone's skillset. Not only that, he's an olympian and a silver medalist, I think to say that he's got good footwork and balance is not unfoudned, it's very apparent to anyone who watches boxing regularly, Freddie Roach himself said that his footwork is the best in the game and he's a very renowned trainer, so he must be seeing something. Regardless of who he's faced.
his footwork, positioning, cutting off the ring is so damn underrated, most people only see his devastating power, but don't know that GGG isn't all about power
When he's trash talking, yeah. But when he's being serious then he gushes about him. In fact, he was gushing so much about GGG at Cotto/Canelo press conference that I get the feeling Roach wants him as his fighter. They had lunch together not too long ago as well. I think Roach realizes Golovkin is the better fighter, and he'd be the happiest dude if he got GGG in his stable. (He won't though)
This is one of my favourite educational videos I've come across, I return to it every few months, superb ****ysis of Golovkin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vijD09_O8ek
That's because they are. There's nothing terribly impressive about knocking over a string of TOMATO CANs...
Frazier has a W over the guy who is arguably the #1 HW all time. Exactly WHO has the Triple Duck ever beaten?
