True but picking a fighter 1 weight above/below is more acceptable than bringing a fighter 2 weight classes up.

BROOK IS GOING UP THE FULL 13 lbs. GGG called out anyone up to 168. When War accepted GGG people didn't want it. 8lbs is all he would have been going uon to fight Ward. Granted that 8lbs is probably the hardest jump in boxing

To be fair, I don't think anyone would claim he ducked Brook

GGG is a modest-sized middleweight, certainly no bigger than many past 160 champs.
Brook is at least as big - probably at least as big as many past welters that moved up to middleweight, whether successfully or not.

This is not all that unusual at all.

I'm fine with guys fighting for exposure and paydays as that's the name of the game. I just expect fans of Gennady "Money" Golovkin not to whine about other fighters similarly making business decisions rather than pursuing the Good of the Sport above all else.

    Great points.

What was he supposed to do?

    What were his other options?

When you ask people those questions they don't reply back.

I've read numerous interviews with Eddie Hearn and Frank W over the weekend.

It appears to me that Eubank Snr's ego is off the charts. Apparently, he even wanted Barry McGuigan as a commentator along with doubling the ticket prices and the PPV etc.

I'm not a huge fan of Eddie's, but I think the Eubank fight was there had Snr not got carried away.

It's unrealistic to suggest that GG could have demanded Eubank or walked. It appears that they have quite a good relationship and GG wouldn't have had any better last minute options. He was under pressure to fight on HBO's date which was only 9 weeks away when he signed for Brook. Realistically, he'd have had less than a week to have found a better alternative. Fighting Brook over here on a huge PPV is good for him. His mandatories aren't going anywhere.

Ironically the same people who slated Canelo will defend GGG.

It's good though cos it shows me who the fanboys are.

The real answer is obvious. Canelo took a high reward low risk fight, GGG has done the same.

Both big paydays both mismatches. The only benefit is the exposure of hypocrisy.

    Boxers that ducked/ducking GGG

1---Sturm - wouldn't fight him for over 2 years when GGG was mandatory.

2---Quillin - said he will only fight for the may-pac kind of money, lol + he flew to Haymon to avoid GGG

3---Martinez - "His promoter said that "no way I am putting him with this monster", GGG kept calling him out after his U.S. debut after every fight

4---Cotto - ducked his mandatory(GGG) twice by fighting Geale and Canelo

5---Chavez jr - Turned down 12mil offer by TR

6---Canela - Avoided his mando(GGG). Thinks that he is fighting at the weight-class of 155, as there is no such thing as a "155 weight-class" ,he is pretending to be not in the MW division because of GGG.There are 17 divisions just pick one, if you can't make 154 then you are a MW, simple. And then he dropped the belt when he had to fight GGG next, wow

7---Froch - After calling GGG out then when GGG accepted ,he backed down and now he is retired after making all the fuss, + GGG was calling him for more than a year b4 he was retired so no excuses for "retiring".

8---Ward - The diva of the 168lb division don't want to travel or meet the a-side GGG in a catchweight so he can become a good boy and get ktfo. Was willing to goto 160 for Floyd but when GGG said 164, Ward ducked + he was fine when Dawson came down a whole division for him but wont move half a division for GGG, smh

9---Saunders - Even before winning the WBO title from Lee his fear of Golovkin was as biright as day this is just one of many interviews(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJuwAz-ekoQ), then after winning it he priced himslef out at 6 mil$. Then turned down $3.2mill offer from k-2(its 2.2 gbp so I converted)

10---Eubank jr - Very similar to Froch's duck of GGG, after calling GGG out he ducked when he had to sign

11---Jacobs - asked for a life changing money and then said that after 18 months, lol gtfoh.

12---Njikam -When Hassaan was WBO champ, he was ordered to a purse bid to face Golovkin no less than two times and he was a no show each time.

13---Barker - When Barker defeated Geale to become IBF champ, his promoter openly said that Barker will fight any1 except GGG

    Canelo specifically chose Khan.

Brook is a last minute replacement for Eubank.

The fight was in 9 weeks time from the day the contract was signed.

GG normally has camps that are around 8 weeks for his MW fights after the press conferences etc.

It's unrealistic to expect a CW at such short notice. Although it would have been nice, you can't really expect a guy to lose more weight than he normally does in the same timeframe used for an average camp.

I'm giving him a pass due to the circumstances.

This fight is rightly being criticised. But we have to remember that it's a last minute replacement for Eubank.

GG didn't go out of his way to drag a WW up 2 divisions.

Good points, but you have to note the huge differences in circumstances.

Canelo choosing Khan is not the same as GG accepting Brook as a last minute replacement.

THe hypocrisy is highly evident on both ends. Especially those who criticized Canelo for doing what he did and then GGG and his team turn around and do the very same and all some of these guys can do is try to come up with lame reasons as to why this is different.

In the end these fights will have served their purpose.

Both took mismatches because of the payday. Both could have faced better fighters for less money.

    True.

I guess what bothered me most about Canelo is that he kept saying he wants to fight GGG "as soon as possible", move up to 160, while he does the exact opposite. Khan and Smith are no preparation for fighting Golovkin.

If he had said he was a LMW who just happened to get the MW belt because the Cotto bout was too good to resist, then vacated it and went back down, I wouldn't be complaining about Canelo-Khan or Canelo-Smith either. They are not the best opponents, sure, but it's entirely forgivable as Canelo does have an excellent record.
