Schiller Hyppolite vs. Daniel Urbanski, 8 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Hyppolite beat Urbanski by TKO3.

There was no 3-knockdown rule in effect, as Hyppolite managed to drop Urbanski five times within a span of a minute or so before the referee finally got the message that his intervention may be required.

The lanky Haitian-Quebecois was simply too athletic, too quick, and too sharp for the usually-durable Pole, using him for target practice and spending the entire third round bouncing him off the canvas with quick right hand leads on the face and deep lean-over digs on the liver with the left hook.

 

Antonin Decarie vs. Cesar Chavez, 8 rounds @ welterweight

 

Round 1

Decarie is jabbing Chavez in the chest and lowering his face straight down into the firing zone while separating his left arm from his body to load up wide hooks downstairs. Chavez is countering with his own hip-slapper lefts and hurling overhands into Decarie's face while backing up. Counter uppercut on the cheek by Chavez while sinking into the ropes as Decarie comes after him with hooking combos, extremely wide. Decarie billy-goats with his head, ramming it into Chavez's chest to keep his back pinned on the ropes while slinging hooks at his body. Headlock by Chavez. Decarie shoves off and flurries low some more as Chavez rattles off some chin-ticklers.

10-9 Decarie, messy but aggressive with more connects on the undercarriage of Chavez. (very few on the head)

 

Round 2

Decarie is hurting Chavez with his endless barrage of body hooks, forcing him to skip away rapidly throwing long counters. Chavez is trying to outrun Decarie while still flashing punches out at him, getting nailed with the long fishing line right hand of Decarie. Chavez is stunned, and reaches out to grab a rope for support but misjudges his spatial relations. Decarie catches up to him with another right hand, tossed over a short Chavez jab. It jerks Chavez's head around, causing him to spin down to a knee. Decarie rushes up before Chavez has fully knelt and whacks him with a hard rabbit punch. Chavez wastes little more time meeting the canvas. He beats the ref's count, arguing while clutching himself behind the head and gesturing frantically at Decarie, looking for a foul ruling and some extra recovery time. Nope. Decarie rushes in to finish him off. Chavez knows his legs won't take him far, so he just leans back into the ropes and fires blind, hoping for the best. Instead he gets the worst; Decarie bombing freely on his skull. Right to the body, right hand left hook up top, left hook right hand. Chavez down again. Up. A few more right hands. That's enough.

TKO2!

 

That was very much a bit of "make Decarie feel like a million bucks" matchmaking.

Chavez, who actually has fought as high as light middleweight, last competed in a light welter contest with Sergio "Cocaine" Thompson (aka the most recent guy to knock out Jorge Linares in a 2012 upset), who came up from super featherweight to blitz Chavez in 1.

Chavez has been stopped in all six of his losses, and has scored as few stoppages as Decarie himself.

They are playing it safe rebuilding this former prospect after his rough treatment by Luis Carlos Abregu.

Ghislain Maduma vs. John Carlo Aparicio, 12 rounds @ lightweight

 

This is for the North American 135lb title, 1st defense of Maduma.

The belt itself may not be all that prestigious but it carries a very respectable lineage.

Ray Beltran, Hank Lundy, Brandon Rios, Martin Honorio, Jason Litzau, Anthony Peterson, Javier Jauregui, Miguel Huerta, Kid Diamond, Edner Cherry, Jose Armando Santa Cruz, Michael Clark, Juan Lazcano, Golden Johnson, Jesse James Leija, Stevie Johnston, Leavander Johnson, Sharmba Mitchell, Rafael Ruelas, Pernell Whitaker, Hector Camacho, Greg Haugen, Ray Mancini, Esteban De Jesus...that is 90% of its holders over the years and that is a high quality list.

 

Round 1

Maduma is flicking the jab upward from the hip into Aparicio's face and sticking the right hand on the belt line. Aparicio is covering up and jerking rhythmically side to side, picking off jabs on either palm or squeezing his gloves closed to clamp them in midair. Triple left hook by Maduma! Up, down, up, with a right to the body dropped in overlapping the 2nd and 3rd. Aparicio tried getting a shot in edgewise during the combo but only left himself more open for the punctuating third hook on the point of his chin, making him wince.

Round 2

Aparicio is rolling his head left and right behind his guard, trading jabs with Maduma on the outside. Aparicio drifts to his left and tries sneaking in a hook on the body but gets clubbed with a well-timed falling hook from Maduma. Right hand lead up high and left hook downstairs is a successful combo for Maduma pressing forward. Aparicio tries seizing the initiative, jumping in with straight flurries, but Maduma hammers him into the submission and walks him onto the ropes with right hands and left hooks while staying at mid-range and leaning backwards at the waist, turned askew.

Round 3

Maduma presses in with a right-hook-right-hook-right combo. Long body shots by Maduma, walking Aparicio down. Lead 1-2 by Aparicio, countered as Maduma ducks in and rips the body and then surges up top with piston combos. Aparicio is down off a right hand clipping the side of the head. Aparicio gets to his feet and looks to establish a jab but Maduma hurtles in with more artillery. Maduma again pairs the straight right lead with the steadying gap-filling left hook, missing all the latter but landing most of the former, bouncing Aparicio's head around while he is seeking solace by the ropes. Aparicio is eight-balled into the ropes by a hard one and very quickly put down once more by the series of flush right hands. He accepts his fate, genuflecting.

TKO3!!

 

Maduma does a forward ninja flip in celebration as soon as the ref waves it off.
