Ghislain Maduma vs. John Carlo Aparicio & Antonin Decarie vs. Cesar Chavez RBR

Aparicio, in addition to being taller and longer than Maduma, brought in a fair-looking and seemingly dangerous hitter's record of 26-7 (21) - but it was more than a little misleadingly padded. Nearly all his wins came against inexperienced and/or losing-record opponents, several in their pro debuts...so the power has never been put to real use. In all his steps up in class he was either knocked out (just twice so far prior to Maduma) or shut out (most recently by notoriously feather-fisted onetime featherweight contender Fernando Saucedo)

 

As for Maduma himself, I still can't figure out how to rate him.

I've watched him several times since his first year in the pros and he looks sharp on some nights (like tonight, or in a few of his other kayos, or in his early days licking Isaac Bejerano...) but then on some others he looks completely unable to adapt to certain styles. His clean sweep of Pedro Navarette was as unimpressive as you can get with scoring of 100-89 x3. He got hurt a few times early by Saul Carreon (another Mexican with a similar record to Aparicio, maybe a tad more legit) and was still faltering and dropping the occasional round late.

His outside body attack is nice and his fundamentals are sound but there seems to be something amiss to be any more optimistic than considering this NABF title quite possibly to be his ceiling. He can probably make a nice run defending it and hang onto his zero if they can scrounge up more Aparicio types.


...or maybe he's a work in progress I'm selling way short and will go on to do big things. :conf
