I wonder if Baer and Galento ever accidentally uppercutted themselves in the face.

 

I think you need to listen to the radio broadcast of that fight on YouTube. Not one boo. Not one argument or complaint from the commentary. Not one complaint from Nova in his interview. In fact, it sounds like the crowd loved it, you can hear the blows and the boards creaking. It's just a Great War.

My take of how the dirty rumour started is that so much artistic license was added to it afterwards to enhance Novas contender status. Truth is, Galento simply scored a great win.
