Gonzales problem was he was way too inactive at the beginning of his career. I guess he had trouble getting fights or he held out for too much money. After he beat Canizales in their first fight, he stagnated and Canizales improved markedly. I would surmise maybe Gonzales just wasn't all that hungry for success. He should have don much more as a pro.
Here's Canizales slipping a double jab and then a quintuple jab the following round. https://streamable.com/hvh8
Thanks for the info. BTW, can you recommend any other good fights between high-quality flyweights (from the 70s, 80s, 90s)?
There's a lot on you tube If you like defense, check out Hilario Zapata, especially against German Torres. Torres barely touches him the 15 rounds. If you like quick ko's check out Prudencio Cardona KO1 Antonio Avelar. If you like action, check out Michael Carbajal v. Humberto Gonzales If you like just great all around fighters, watch Betulio Gonzales or Miguelo Canto or Ricardo Lopez.
Yeah, his punches and footwork seemed so graceful and effortless, even after 8 rounds in 100-degree heat: https://streamable.com/rczr (granted, he was a bit of an arm-puncher though)
I know Orlando, so I shared your gif with him here is what he replied: Orlando Canizales shared a post. 1 min · There are some things you just can't teach a fighter, it's something that comes within !
