I actually think Carnera is underrated, his joke status exceeds his actual short comings the man was HW champion and did in my eyes KO a durable legitimate HW champion in Sharkey, showed heart against Baer and was simply overwhelmed by Louis like so many others.

Why J, you are the prime apologist for Primo, the revisionist who races to rehabilitate, the reprehensible rumours and re-adjust the resume of the robbed Primo.

If I am what you say, then the charge could equally be laid at your door, that you have an agenda to preserve the old mythology surrounding his career.

Either way, the old mythology is going to find itself on trial for its life.

I dont agree with the observation that Carnera's forearm is what hit Sharkey. If you watch the sequence in slow motion as Sharkey bobs he also weaves to his right to avoid a pawing Carnera jab. Carnera's jab further moves Sharkey's head to the right and when Primo comes up with his uppercut his fist comes up right under Sharkey's chin as Sharkey is moving into it. Sharkey had just been buzzed, stung Carnera back and tried to go after him, and then got caught. I see no real reason to question the KO.

Did Primo seduce one of your sisters back in the 1930's, because you sure have a burr up your bum about him.

Primo is sometimes hard to figure if we over analyze ... maybe what we see is what he was .. he was better than the buffoon many refer to him as with all mobbed up victories .. based on styles his huge size combined with the degree of skills he did develop allowed him some legit wins over real fighters like Uz and Loughran and Neusel .. he did have a decent jab, decent speed for a big guy, and terrific stamina ... I really don't see film of him looking exhausted at any time ...he also had terrific courage and heart .. not bad recooperative powers and knew how to use his strength to clinch as well .. that said he was hittable and big punchers could and did tee off on him ...Baer, Louis , Hayes ... my guess is that he was protected on the way up , got some gifts and a few disqualifications that went his way, maybe lost a decision or two that could have been by KO if someone didn't hold back a bit but became a decent fighter based on his size and stylistic match ups .. the second Sharkey fight to me is simply too hard to call ...

Good thing that doesn't happen anymore. Oh, wait ... (LOL)

Can you imagine, after winning the title, if Primo thanked Al Capone or Joe Bonanno like Fury thanked Daniel Kinahan?

Looks real to me. Sharkey being against the ropes and getting clipped by Carnera's subsequent left hook is sufficient to alter the manner in which Sharkey would fall, making it look more unusual than it would have been near the center of the ring.

Mythology tacitly takes for granted that it is untrue ,but we know many of his fights were fakes so its no myth.

Not Capone or Bonnano, but he could genuinely have mentioned Owney Madden Public Enemy Number 1 and Frenchy Demange the boss of The Detroit Purple Gang that's of course if he was even aware they owned him. Kinahan has never managed a fighter to my knowledge.Whilst any association with him is obviously undesirable , which results in Fury's fights do you think he influenced? Which opponents do you think he selected?

We know that a couple of his fights were fakes, and that is not much more than could be said of the other champions of that era.

I don't even understand the point people are making about his fall looking unusual?
It just looks like he got absolutely destroyed by a smashing uppercut.
