Did a poll once and a bunch of these guys thought that Corbett and Burns would have beaten Tony Tubbs at his absolute peak. I have no doubt that they'd pick them over Luis Ortiz too.

How do you know 200 year old fighters were immobile?
There are accounts of ancient boxers who would "constantly move around to avoid punches."
    Your lack of depth shows.

With all the changes to society you just described, who is a better painter than Michelangelo? Or Leonardo Da Vinci?
It's the same thing. Globalization in your theory should've produced countless of painters that make both of them look amateurish. But of course that is a stupid thing to suggest.

Football was invented after Corbett learned how to box.
When he was stringing punches together, the "forward pass" hadn't even been in the rules yet.
Boxing has been around for thousands of years.
So that would be a stupid equivalent. You're on fire.

It has been said by experts through the years that all sports have evolved EXCEPT the art of boxing. Again the finer points of the game the true skills, have been replaced predominantly in the hwt division by much less complicated range fighting. Dumbed down skills for all the dumbed down fan boys.

Ive seen plenty of texts that make clear that European boxers in the (relatively) not so distant past were extremely flat footed compared to current boxers. If you've seen persuasive evidence to the contrary, I'm all ears.

Your art analogy is a complete non-sequitur. The worlds of commissioned art painting and boxing are so different that it's not even worth getting into this in depth. But since you've raised it, what makes you so sure that there haven't been painters far "better" at painting than Michelangelo and Da Vinci?? There have been tons of guys more creative and innovative, guys who paint in ways that neither of them would have ever even contemplated. The fact that you brought them up reveals as examples of unrivaled excellence in painting shows that you're probably in over your head. Maybe we should stick to boxing?

This occurred because range fighting is superior and renders a lot of the other "skills" you constantly fetishize obsolete. This is true of virtually all forms of combat.

Lmao so when modern fighters are immobile they are "range finding." But If old school fighters are immobile, they just don't know any better?

    Holy dumb Batman.

If you say so. Keep the worthless non-sequiturs coming, Robin. Try following the conversation next time though--I didn't say anything about modern fighters being immobile.

My 8 year old can paint better than Da Vinci guys. Haven't you all heard of evolution?

Grab a protein shake, these bozos'll tell you all about it.

Yawn. You're boring. Just like with Jim Brown and his Browns, you tried to name drop in a domain you know nothing about, and now you're about to get exposed. Take my advice and just move on.

You think your average professional artist is far better than Da Vinci or Michaelangelo?
Is there even anyone who was better than either of them? Probably if you compare them to the greats of all eras the argument can be made. Then again, that's what we do with old school fighters while you guys argue that they are amateurish.

Unless...you're not going to suggest that anyone with photoshop is better than Michaelangelo are you?

Range fighting is for dumbed down fan boys such as yourself. Simple skills for simpletons.

Like I said, I have no interest in discussing artists and art history. It's an irrelevant side conversation and it's a topic on which you're clearly not all that well versed. The bottom line is that boxing and painting have extremely different historical contexts and have been shaped by very different commercial, social, technological, and institutional forces and developments. It does not follow that what happened in one field would parallel what happened in the other. Let's stick to boxing. My claim was that: "Technological change, increased literacy, improved cross-continental and cross-oceanic transportation, radio, film, bigger and denser metropolitan areas, etc. all made for conditions far more conducive to unprecedented change and progress in the craft. Much, much easier for good ideas and techniques to spread and replace less effective, less efficient ones."

Do you disagree with any of that?

Yeah, tell us some more about how Larry Holmes didn't know how to feint or slip punches. Idiot.
