When I see Corbett, Baer, Galento, etc. I don't care how long boxing has been around, I just see fighters who show nothing that would make them competitive today. Anything they can do, plenty of modern fighters can do much better. As I said, if you think those guys were good, enjoy them. I've seen them and I'm not going to waste my time watching them.

Corbett was in a real fight here. You might want to ask Perry if he thinks Gunboat Smith's 4th round TKO over Jack Johnson on 1909 was a real fight because by his definition they were in the ring fighting and it was not choreographed.

It was a BOUT. WHETHER it should be characterized as a real fight or exhibition could be looked at in several ways. Certainly this was a match between a very low level opponent and the hwt champion of the world. No matter however the skill level of the opponent Corbett indeed threw a four punch what looked like very quick combo. As we all knew aside from the fanboys combination punching has been around for a very long time.

 

The entire film, so I have been told can be viewed today. Corbett toys with his overmatched opponent, and KO's him on cue. A real fight for sure, not a staged event. The fighters were paid too.
