Good call Perry! His right foot ends up next to his left foot, allowing him to use his right foot for that extra leverage on the hook.

Stabilizing the footage definitely helps a lot.

Well, from experience I know this discussion never ends. For me it's the simplest thing in the world to see. When I first saw footage of Corbett I was a bit schocked of how rudimentary he looked and that hasn't changed.

But each to his own. We'll have to agree to disagree. :)

Stunning. I am speechless. This is the type footage one looks around forever to find.

Fast foreword 90 years and watch Duran Leonard 1. Round two Duran used the same shift to hit SRL with a left hook that nearly floored him. Arcel taught Duran this maneuver in training for this specific bout.

Duran threw a jab and then feinted a right hand beforehand, forcing an attempted slip from Leonard. Only when Leonard was out of position did he nail him with the straight right-left hook. He delivered the combination with patience and defensive awareness.

Fitz in the clip leads with a wild overhand right like a glorified pub brawler with terrible balance and then fails to deliver the left hook.

No he didn't. You might want to rewatch that one some time...

In round 2 he throws that combo

It doesnt nearly floor Leonard, and he probably got it mixed up with the other right left combo.
But he does throw that same combo as Fitz, except its a straight and not an overhand.

Here is David Haye using the same combo

Fitz' balance is way better than Hayes.
But you can't see the sweat glisten on Fitz muscles with zoomed up incredible cameras that can shoot from all angles with perfect depth, so of course Fitz doesn't look as good.

David Haye doing the same doesn't justify anything.

What Fitz was doing in that vid is ****ing atrocious. Period.

It nullifies any criticism related to time period.

How is that move by Fitz atrocious? I'm confident I can find every single great power puncher using that move and I can probably find it quickly.
That's a deadly combination of heavy power from an all time puncher. And combination often used by big hitters with shoulder snap technique.

That overhand right is a punch you see and go "holy ****."

Fitz's right looks very wild ,you would expect a decent pro to avoid that particular example, imo.

The manner Fitz employed his shift was to first throw a right hand aimed at his opponents neck. Once landed that right would allow him to steady himself and at the same time shift his stance from conventional to southpaw......right foot in front of the left. Then he would
hammer home a left hook to body or head.

Here Corbett anticipates the move and steps to his left and out of the power range of the punch.

I think this clip highlights Corbett's natural quickness, defensive reflexes and athleticism.

Had he lived today maybe he'd counter.

And knowledge of Fitzsimmons and his shift explains why Corbett moved like he did.

I'm not blown away by this clip by any means, but it's still a good find.
