That is the clearest film of the bout I have ever.....the champ...Mr r...always comes trough in the end!! Thanks again tremendous quality!!......Jim Murray felt Willard's cheekbone and it was caved in...jeez could Willard take it
Silly. Read those from ringside accounts. Unless you believe in conspiracies (you probably do) note how they all present the same picture. Willard never mentioned his face being caved in for a reason during his fighting years... he would never be offered another fight. Damaged goods are not top contenders for long. Decades later he proclaimed his injuries for all to hear.
Jess Willard still bitter by Jim Murray...Willard's cheekbone was caved in Murray felt it...should be on the internet somewhere...1962
Willard....."Put your hand here. Feel that bone moving around? That's what Dempsey left glove did to my face". FYI. "Face bones" move around only when they are broken.
Only a fool would ignore Willards own words decades later stating his face bones were caved in and (still) broken. For the third time Willard had no choice but to keep all this quiet in his fighting years as a damaged fighter finds it hard to obtain fights. Willard..."He closed both my eyes and cut my face to ribbons". "The entire right side of my face was caved in." "Put your hand here. Feel that bone moving around? That's what Dempseys left glove did to my face"
No fighter is going to boast how much another guy battered him, so willard was bound to down play his injuries. At least while he still has a career. I think as a rule people were generally a lot tougher back then anyway, living conditions were a lot harder for most. If u had severe injuries back then you just sucked it up. Similar to the injury s inflicted by greb on to tunney.
Whatever happened, it looked really bad. http://media.gettyimages.com/photos...-thrown-by-jess-willard-a-picture-id515213602
You can't believe everything you read in newspaper. The claim that Wllard took a mere 2 to 3 days to "entirely recover from the effects of the punishment" is ridiculous, far-fetched. Impossible. Think about it.
Yes, that facial damage is quite severe. And we can only imagine the soreness around his body. Common sense and life experience tells us he can't have been fully recovered within 72 hours. Anyone who's done any sort of contact sport or taken a beating in a fight knows that's impossible. Willard absorbed a lot of punishment. You don't shake it off in 2 or 3 days. Go ahead. If you have more quotes. Impossible claims of Willard's miraculous fast recovery are good for a laugh.
The guy may have had freak recuperative abilities. But you have to wonder why he would go around, letting people feel his caved in skull, telling them that Dempsey did it to him.
