in your opinion what would you say is the more effective right hand counter? an overhand right to counter the opponents right hand or a right hand over the opponents left hook (or jab)? or would you say it depends on the fighters involved or the fight itself?
I think realistically you'll do whichever opportunity presents itself. And yeah it also depends on the fighters preference. I prefer countering the jab with a straight left (southpaw) because the right is something you want to focus more on avoiding. But yeah, I think it's different for everyone, and it mostly depends on what opportunities presents themselves.
of course its a waste for a fighter to let a counter oppurtunity slip away, provided the opponent is not setting a trap. but dont you think there are certain counters that simply work better than others, universally? a right hand to counter a right combines both fighters' forward momentum to result in a big clash. a left hook (if properly thrown) shifts the throwers weight from left to right, which means theres a certain chance for the right hand over the top to have less impact because the left hooker will roll with the punch. looking at southpaw vs orthodox, a left hand counter over the jab while (i presume) stepping to the right is the safest move. but a left hand while stepping to the left, so your left lands while the opponent is completely squared up, will certainly have a bigger impact. i just wanted your opinion since you seem to have access to alot of footage and certainly you have seen more footage than i have.
So tight and powerful. He really had him timed and so was able to throw with full confidence and commitment. A thing of beauty.
Viruet ate a bunch of hard rights in the minute leading up to that one, but seemed suprisingly undeterred. So weird to see him standing and trading with Rosario. His legs must have really been gone. Love Chapo's style though, one of my favorite fighters to watch.
Viruet had an iron chin and wasn't a skill less fighter himself. That was simply a perfect shot from a great puncher. I consider this a great knockout, along the lines of some of the more technical ones we saw from the likes of Jersey Joe Walcott. Great stuff.
Not a one punch KO, but Rosario's stoppage of Bramble is one of the most impressive stoppages I've seen. Rosario was a pretty clear underdog in that fight too.
At his best Rosario was breath-taking, a brilliant marriage of speed, power, and precision. Just from watching him in action he almost fought like one of Nacho Beristein's protégé's, i.e. Rafa Marquez, Finito Lopez, etc.
Well put. Excellent balance too. Sort of reminded me of a mix between Cotto and Finito, if that makes sense.
I consider him the hardest hitting 135 i've ever seen. Guys like Ganigan and co hit huge too but Rosario's power is proven numerous times against top opposition.
Probably would've fared better (and certainly lasted much longer) against Rosario in his prime though, when he was more mobile. https://streamable.com/emqn https://streamable.com/crzr https://streamable.com/hi2l
