    I wanted Barkley here badly. A real changing of the guard as the 80's middleweights had to give way to the newer guys even though Toney would leave soon after.

    Toney had already left 6 months prior to the Barkley fight, which was at 168. Barkley hadn't fought there for 2 1/2 years, 4 of his 6 previous fights had been above 175.

    Iran Barkley was my man back in the day, along with Frank "The Animal" Fletcher and his
    mother, Mrs Animal.

    Loved his response to Jim Grey before a fight. Asked what his strategy was, Iran said
    "I'm a go in the ring, I'm a knock him out". Grammatically incorrect, but puglistically
    perfect.

    Toney was doing beautiful work that night, but in part due to the compliant canvas which a shopworn and weight drained Barkley provided. RJJ did not and would not fight like Barkley in any way or manner.
