Probably a few of the people betting hadn't seen either fight. Or hadn't seen them fight in awhile. Wasn't like today they couldn't just look up one of Dempsey's or Willards past fights and make a decision. Most of them were probably just going off Willard beating Johnson and the size difference. They just couldn't see how anyone could beat a giant.
