Never heard of somebody being ruined after a KO before, particularly one as vicious as the beating put on Carnera by Louis? Anyway I respect your opinion. You think Louis can't beat Vitali then that's cool too.
Have you got any evidence preferably medical to prove Carnera was ruined by Louis? If what you say is true then don't you think Carnera was "ruined" by Max Baer before he faced Joe Louis?
Well I haven't got a doctors certificate if that's what you're after. Just going by anecdotal evidence Carnera was stopped once in 87 fights prior to fighting Louis and was stopped 3 times against mostly inferior opposition in 13 fights after meeting Joe. Of course it's perfectly feasible that the Baer fight ruined Primo also although having watched both fights it's pretty clear the Louis beating was the more thorough but again Baer could have diminished him beforehand too. Who knows? I'm only speculating that Louis ruined Carnera just as you're speculating that Louis was physically incapable of KOing Vitali Klitschko.
I think it's a certainty that Baer ruined Carnera, Primo wasn't stopped once prior to facing Max. Should Louis really get credited for stopping a fighter that was already ruined?
Fair call. But do you have any medical evidence that Carnera was ruined by Baer? Again we're both only speculating on this.
You can separate the knowledgeable posters from the stupid quite easily. The stupid posters are impressed with size discounting that boxing is a skill sport. Louis was a ko puncher and those ko punches would put to sleep any hwt regardless of size. Being able to punch hard as Louis could requires the ability to put a fighters weight behind the blow. So to concentrate 200 pounds into each blow as they are thrown. No fighter can stand up to punches such as this no matter the size.
Lemme guess: the knowledgeable posters are the ones who agree with you about the worthlessness of modern heavyweights relative to the ATGs of old? Boring.
Franklin did not have poor to average power , he was a serious puncher. Your position is that Louis can't hurt Vitali,is that correct?'
His knockout percentage was in the 50's, hardly anything to write home about. My position is that Vitali faced bigger punchers than Louis and was never seriously hurt, Joe Louis didn't have the power to knock Vitali out.
Franklin had 31 wins, only three of the were by decision .Ike Williams ko % is 31% was he a poor to average puncher? Joe Choynski had a ko of 45% ,yet Jack Johnson, TomSharkey,JimCorbett,JimJeffries all named him as the hardest hitter they met.Vitali 's ko% is 87%,Wlads 78% which one hit harder? And you said Louis didn't have the power to hurt him. "Vitali wouldn't even feel that shot."
As fighters they were both average punchers, it's not about what you can do it's what you do do. Both have poor average knockout percentage. So if a fighter loses 50 fights and wins 5 with 3 by knockout that makes him a big puncher?
Lammin' Lem was a pretty damn good fighter. I thought he deserved a shot against the Brown Bomber, but that's already been argued ad nauseum around here.
If you have a lot of losses because maybe your chin/ defence isnt so good that obviously detracts from your ko% Well it would be obvious to most people. If you are judging a fighters power purely on his ko% then you don't know too much I'm afraid eg Archie Moore said the two hardest punchers he met were Yvon Durelle 43% and Curtess Shepard38%. Bob Satterfield widely acknowledged as a terrific puncher has a ko % of 44%. I think a lot of the time you just argue for the sake of it because I don't see much thought or logic behind the majority of your posts.
