Yeah, that sequence is an excellent example of the importance of proper boxing technique and why there is so much more to boxing than throwing punches as hard as possible--even for the greats. Louis got a bit reckless and sloppy there against a far lesser fighter and it cost him.

Definitely possible that he still goes down with his left in position, but he'd at least have had a much better chance to defend himself if his glove had been closer to the point of impact. As is, he was completely helpless.

It was Braddocks brilliant slip and counter that catches him by surprise. And his ruggedness for being alert while he should have been hurt. Even as the viewer you don’t expect him to avoid the last punch and come back with a big sharp counter.

Mechanically, what Louis did he was no worse than how he scored the Baer 360 degree KD. Or how Mike Tyson removed one of Michael Johnson’s teeth. It’s a finishing punch.

The punch put Braddock's teeth through his gumshield, how many times have you heard of that happening?

I thin you are misinterpreting the conversation. I was not talking about the punch that Joe Ko'ed Brddock with, but the one that Braddock dropped Joe with earlier in the fight. https://i.imgur.com/HTaucRt.mp4 this sequence here.

Hard to tell if he slipped it or Joe just missed.

A bit of both, but look at Braddocks head. He sees the punch coming and turns his head so that it misses him, and loads up on the counter in one motion.

"Brilliant slip"? That seems like quite an overstatement. Looked to me like Braddock moved his chin a couple of inches, but it was still there for the taking if the punch had been on target. Technique-wise, what Louis did was reckless and sloppy. Great fighters get away with it all the time, especially when their over-matched opponents are already hurt, but Louis didn't in this case. If Louis hadn't fallen in unprotected face first, Braddock probably wouldn't have been able to counter at all, let alone drop him.
