Did the reporters ringside and boxing experts who were there such as AJ Leibling come to that conclusion because they wanted to believe it? Or did they come to that conclusion based on what they saw and the reaction from Walcott which they witnessed from a few feet away? NB Everyone who is less than idolatary about Marciano is not a hater.
A strange one this fight. Jersey battling so hard in first fight then just collapsing like that. Who knows what memories he took in to ring with him that night. The thought of marciano coming at him again and again and that cracking right hand that put him out!
I'm neither a great supporter or a great destractor. The film, especially with audio, does not lie. Walcott was hit with a very hard blow and was counted out. Period. Joe has no history of quitting so why speculate he did so here? There is no evidence whatsoever he quit and the only reason to reach that conclusion is to diminish Marciano clean ko win.
So all the ringside reporters and journalists close to the action filed their copy with the express intention of diminishing Marciano?
There is no reason to believe he quit. Zero. Where in his entire career did Walcott show any propensity to quit?
I don't see him quitting. I see him very disoriented from that knockdown. I think since it was so early in the fight he took it kind of easy getting back up and was dirooented and stood up too late.
Which fights did Liston quit in prior to the first Clay title fight? Oh and you didn't answer my question. So all the ringside reporters and journalists close to the action filed their copy with the express intention of diminishing Marciano?
Liston was getting a beating and was not getting to Clay and hurting him back, he knew he was going to get beat so quit. Marciano landed a good uppercut that completely stiffened Wallcot's legs up as he fell. Only Joe knows for certain if he was able to continue but the inevitable was going to happen wether Walcott could carry on or not.
Isn't it just as feasible that Walcott ,with prospect of another 13 rds of continuous bombardment decided to sit it out? That's what the experts concluded anyway! As for Liston, "getting a beating" here are the score cards. Referee: Barney Felix 57-57 Judge: Bernie Lovett 58-56 Judge: Gus Jacobson 56-58 Unofficial AP Scorecard: 56-58 Unofficial UPI Scorecard: 56-58
Did Liston or Duran have a history of quitting? How about Seldon v Tyson? M Baer v Louis? Flawed logic.
I could name many HW fights where it's feasible the knocked out opponent could have carried on, there's nothing unique about that certain fight.
