Relentless! Charles had a heck of a chin to take those shots.

Punching machine. Note how Rocky bobs out of the way after every punch he throws. He was rarely there to be hit with counters.

He's trying to take Ezzards head off with every one of those punches, all with maximum effort.

And that defensive movement is integrated seamlessly into his attack. Even if he misses a punch, he follows through with the momentum, and uses it to set up the force of the next punch.

That's what makes Marciano different from Tyson. Tysons attack was at a staccato pace. Intervals of intensity. Whereas Marciano's attack is more consistent and seamless.

Look at the second to last punch he throws. The left uppercut.
He doesn't load back on it at all. It only goes forward. It travels such a short distance, at such a small angle. And yet he still generates lots of power and jolts Charles.

And then it he uses it to set up the momentum of the next punch.
That's why he was able to knock out the best slick boxers of his era.
He made effective adjustments after every punch, reducing their options.

And it seems like all of the punches he throws are awesome. The technique and power.

Instead of focusing on Marciano ... block him out and just look at Charles.

Look how Charles keeps his hands low. Look how Charles stays within Marciano's punching range at all times. Look how Charles displays ZERO defense at all.

I think I counted 14 swinging punches by Marciano in that clip, to ZERO punches by Charles.

Look how Charles doesn't step out of Rocky's punching range, how he doesn't move in and clinch, how he doesn't punch back, but how he just stands in range of all of Marciano's punches with his hands down taking flush shots.

Jesus. Put up your gloves or step out of HIS punching range or punch back. Or, better yet, DO ALL THREE.

Marciano had the shortest reach of any heavyweight champ ever. He was just swinging. You know how close you need to be to get hit by him? Pretty damn close. HOLD OUT YOUR ARM and odds are you'd be out of his punching range if you extended your arm

DON'T STAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM WITH YOUR HAND DOWN IN HIS PUNCHING RANGE.

Charles displayed no technique at all in that clip. He was about as dangerous as a punching bag. He just floated there right in Marciano's range doing nothing but swaying back and forth like his was hanging on a hook.

Besides one uppercut, Charles tried blocking or slipping every single punch in that clip.
Not only that, but he was also using his feet to move away.

Boxers can't always throw punches when it looks convenient.
There are other factors at play like fatigue, and opening yourself up.

Charles held his right glove up a couple of times. His left hand was by his waist the entire time, and he's standing within the punching range of a guy with a 60-something-inch reach. If he moved, he moved straight back ... which you're taught not to do on the first day of training.

Marciano wasn't landing over the top of anything Charles was throwing. Charles wasn't throwing anything.

If you didn't know who Charles was, you'd say that guy has zero defense at all.

Opening yourself up? How could he get "MORE OPEN" than he was in that clip. His hands were down. He was in range. He wasn't punching. He wasn't in a defensive posture. He didn't hold his gloves up to block. He was there to be hit.

In that clip, he was OPEN the entire time. Credit to Marciano for letting his hands go. But for god's sake, he had a guy with hands down standing right in front of him throwing nothing back ... of course he's going to start winging shots. Nothing's coming back.
