Lol. I'm not trying to "expose" anything. I'm trying to contribute to a more balanced, nuanced appraisal of Marciano's style and technique than some of you seem capable of. I can see how clips like this might be repugnant to fan boys and cheerleaders who prefer to worship and dieify old fighters but i don't see anything unfair or inappropriate about it. And it only seems like half my posts are about Marciano because you seem not to have any interest in (or knowledge about) non-heavyweights and non-"ATG" fighters (except when you're trying to build up ones who fought older ATG heavies). You cherry pick incessantly--it's a central part of your argument strategy. The people here who don't wear rose-colored lenses point out flaws in older fighters and you find random, unrepresentative examples to try to counter. Fundamentally silly but occasionally entertaining stuff.
Award winning boxing journalist Thomas Hauser article on the Rock. http://www.secondsout.com/columns/thomas-hauser/rocky-marciano-revisited--part-one http://www.secondsout.com/columns/thomas-hauser/rocky-marciano-revisited--part-two?clearcache=1
Do you not have the guts to proclaim your true intentions? You responded to three answers. In each response you try to affirm an unfavorable view of the subject. Please don't attempt to insult our intelligence or deceive our good natured judgement by disguising your inaccurate bias for an honest examination of the truth. I have no problem with the clip. Rocky looks great there. I just find it moronic being called a cherry picker by a someone obsessed with rotten fruit.
Lol. Why are you in my thread then? Glad you're back on the board though--I thought you had quit posting a few months back when everyone was making fun of you and your ridiculous posts.
One sportswriter unimpressed with Marciano's style, called The Rock "crude"....another writer said "yeah,....the atom bomb was crude too...but it got the job done!!!"
very sloppy,no head movement, when he lunges in and misses hes practically struggling to stay balances. his back foot is almost always sideways so hes stuck in cement as well. He has no jab to set anything up and La Starza's easy back stepping is more than enough to throw Marciano off b/c he then has to move forward with slow footwork with lunging shots that are not accurate because he has no jab as was stated and charges in with chin and head as his lead target when he puts his head aimlessly down. But well hes Marciano so its flawless! Forget everything i said it doesnt count...lol
Rocky had about 20-30 slips/weaves in the original clip. Not that the absence of head movement is indicative of poor boxing. Beterbiev goes 3 minutes without slipping his head twice. Rockys style would be horrible if he was an arm puncher. But his style was creative and effective for carrying and delivering the kind of firepower he possessed. Mainly from his freakish shoulder snap.
Let's say this was a modern fighter like Golovkin https://streamable.com/xa3dn Besides the shoulder snap, If someone told you "Rocky moved like that" you would spit out your coffee.
I don't see the issue with this clip at all. He clearly isn't out jabbing the man so he does what he does best, goes into the crouch, leaps into hooks and relies on his strength to drive forward. Shots coming back at him he rolls with to allow him opportunity to fire back. Obviously it paid off because he went on to stop LasStarza.
