You consider the footwork orchestrating the left hook off the missed uppercut from the Lastarza fight conventional and in no way unique?
You say tomato; I say Lastarza was half dead, helpless, harmless, and wide open, and it's surprising that Marciano's first uppercut missed him by such a wide margin.
Marciano wasn't a member of the hit and not get hit club but he was a member of the beat and not get beat club.
Tyson missed Berbick with an uppercut and knocked him out with a left hook. What's the difference? Why isn't it surprising Tyson missed a stationary target with his own sweeping uppercut in an identical situation?
Tyson did also fall down after missing punches in exactly the same way Rocky did. Round 7 against Bonecrusher is just one example off the top of my head. I dont know why you think falling over after missing is some kind of disqualifying proof against greatness. Holyfeild and Bowe even went over together. It happens all the time.
I dont know if Rocky was conscious of it or not but he had a knack of heading into the perfect distance his opponent would be in order to evade a punch he missed with to land a better punch. usually catching them unawares. It's like he was saying to himself "if this roundhouse dosnt land he won't see me arrive over here to land the next one".
It isn't a disq against greatness ,but it is against good balance, which has been attributed to Marciano several times and is patently untrue. You can trawl back as far as you like in my posts, but you won't find one saying he was not great.
Tyson ever get knocked down by a 39years old ex lhvy ? Or a 37 years old heavy? Maybe Mike's his chin was better?
