Then he should have done better against Wilder, than even Seamus is predicting for Carnera!

never heard of a "shift" until a few years ago. GGG and a few others "shifted" and did it well. For them, it was effective and of course the ones who did it well were well coached and what they did had been schooled into them with repetition. Good fighters who have excellent body mechanics and who have mastered boxing fundamentals can get away with some unconventional movements in the ring.(GGG, Ali, FMJ, RJJ, etc)

Then, predictably, some "video boxing experts" (VBEs) started showing fighters who weren't good, who "walked" when they threw their strong hand and the VBEs said those fighters were "shifting" before "shifting was cool." No, when most fighters throw their strong hand and their back foot comes forward they aren't "shifting", they are showing poor fundamentals and leaving themselves "squared" to their opponent. Trainers spend a lot of time teaching their fighters to keep weight on their rear foot when they throw their strong hand, and not to lift their foot like a baseball pitcher or to "walk" forward with their rear foot. Shifting as done by a well schooled fighter is not "walking" and leaving yourself "squared."

It used to be fun to talk about shifting, until pseudo-experts with a false sense of elitism started pretending that they knew the origins and background of such a move.

When a fighter is pushing off their back foot, and switching stances, it's called shifting.

BUTTERBEAN SHOWS CRAZY SKILLS (AGAIN)! Goes into a Marciano-like crouch and then unleashes a murderous Tua-like triple(!!!) hook while shifting.

I haven't seen amazing skills like that since the early 30's! In the first few seconds, Foreman can be heard to say "frightens even me!" Butterbean was a true throw back fighter. He might look sloppy because the film is from the early 2000s and not in HD. If it was filmed with modern cameras it would look much more fluid. Great shifting tho!

The point is to show that people like Carnera were doing these things 80 years ago as well. Not that you have to be better than Butterbean to do a shift.
Seems pretty obvious, and not that complicated...
