Both fighters look far better with this improved film quality.
Clearly both are world class pros, and would be in any era.

After Baer does his growl, look how sharp Primo launches his jab. Beautiful. Launches it from the shoulder, straight with snap and lots of power.
And look at how nicely Max moves his head back for the slip.

Look at the faces in the crowd. Captivated by this incredible matchup. Who wouldn't envy them?
Lot's of amazing details to see in just this short clip.
And I have the whole fight in this quality.
It feels like watching both guys for the first time again. I understand each fighter so much better after watching this.

Just being able to clearly see their facial expressions makes it feel "real". You can see the mind games and you can feel the distance between the two fighters better.

Carnera was pretty darn good from a technical standpoint, whether the "modern is better" crew like to admit it or not.

His limitations were that he did not hit particularly hard for a man his size, didn’t take the best punch, and perhaps lacked a little in terms of killer instinct.

He's almost too skilled in an era of tough guys and hard hitters.

He fights the way you'd expect someone like him to fight today. And for the most part it's actually pretty effective on Max, as Primo walks him down most of the fight. But then max launches a counter out of nowhere and bam, just crushes all of Carneras progress.

I think it's difficult for a guy to really punch from his legs and coordinate full leverage against a guy so much smaller than he is. Punching down too. That's why I think Primo concentrated more on timing the jab rather than loading up with his power. I think it's just harder to connect with a heavy blow from all that way up there.

And this struggle of being able to coordinate full physical potential can also explain the appearance of a "weak chin". Its funny but The guys that go over the most are always the ones who get hit clean on the chin most often.

when gloves were so much smaller a direct hit could zero in on target more often. Primo might be hard to reach initially but it is harder to ride a blow that comes from below. Every blow aimed at Primo came from below.

Gave Baer a black eye, something Schmeling couldn't do

Bear deceptively better defensively then given credit for as I always maintained. There are some fights he just ate flush punishment with no concern, but here against Primo, he keeps that head low and chin tucked. It's similar to what you see Golovkin do today.

He's getting hit but he's protecting himself from serious harm while gaining ground and getting the openings he wants.

And this beautiful restored footage shows that.

So keeping one's head low and chin tucked while eating flush stiff jabs from a 265-lb behemoth is sound defense?

Do I need to explain why your reply is asinine or were you just trying to pander to the old-heavyweight fan club?
