    20 second streamable.

    https://streamable.com/r63zq

In the space of a mere 20 seconds, Cobb throws a double jab, expertly rolls away from a surprise Norton counter while seamlessly launching a combo counter of his own, backs Norton across the ring with his long jab, shows a great variety of punches, and ultimately rocks Norton with a crisp 1-2.

I think we can all agree that this 20-second streamable corrects the ridiculous conventional wisdom on Cobb and demonstrates that he was actually a highly sophisticated technician who possessed subtle, under-appreciated skills.

Naughty, naughty. I just got put on my place by reznick on the 'judging old fighters harshly thread' for querying how a 2 second gif of Jess Willard throwing two punches proved he 'never stopped fighting' and suggested that if you are only presenting two seconds worth of footage, without context, you could, for example, use Tommy Hearns taking a few digs off Hagler to say Hearns was P4P more durable than George Chuvalo.

I was taken literally. But I was making the same point you are that when you only show a fraction of a fight, it can show any hypothesis you want it to, however out of kilter that might be with whatever picture you get when seeing an entire fight or a fighter's career as a whole. But what do we know, eh?

Incredible. Thats a very clear video. Skills sets are not hidden under poor black and white footage.

In addition those, like me, who lived through that time know Cobb was a lowly skilled hwt. So this is not an issue of the generation from that time being no longer with us to provide first hand evidence.

It's only news to the newbies.

Looked like he missed more punches than he threw in that clip.

And another thing... is there anything more pompous and self-congratulatory than talking about 'subtle, under-appreciated skills'? With you on that as well, mucker. Particularly when the skills in question are so 'subtle' as to be invisible to every other bugger.

    Wait, Tex Cobb could box?
    Naw...

He looks way more like Impelletiere than Carnera.

For starters, saying you know how to throw an uppercut better than Marciano...

    Boxers either:

    Know how to box
    Are not good boxers
    Are decent boxers
    Are good boxers
    Are great boxers
    Or are elite boxers.

    Cobb was a decent/good boxer.
Went the distance with some great boxers.
    Beat Earnie Shavers.

If someone were to argue that he was terrible and didn't know basic technique, this gif would serve as good evidence of the contrary.

As someone who makes a living telling jokes, let me tell you that sometimes there's no need for a punchline. Some things are better left just hanging.

There should perhaps be the GIF Top-20 HW moments of skill.
