Galento as far as I am aware was only knocked down by Louis. No one else in all those bouts ever turned the trick. Tony was a hellacious left hooker. A puncher greatly feared in his day. At the same time he had his schtick which brought crowds to see him fight.

Big punch, great chin, but relegated to a joke because of his unsightly physical condition and lax attitudes toward lifestyle & training habits, and cast in retrospective as being more of note for his clownishly vulgar mouthiness than anything he did in the ring.

He's definitely a case of a guy lacking finesse but demanding respect nonetheless if you actually scratch beneath the surface. :thumbsup

The wide loop is the deception that hides the shift of the feet. The move goes back to Fitz stopping Corbett. When Canizales stopped Hardy he did the same thing. It is a simple shift. Educate yourself

Tua, Lewis, Bowe, Wlad K. would all decapitate Louis, that much is obvious.

Had there been Toughman competitions in his day, Galento would have mopped up.

He could have occupied the same "king of the 4-rounder" niche as Esch, but actually have been less of a sideshow attraction (probably done a great deal better vs. old Holmes, too - and maybe scored a real knockdown..)

 You really need to go back and rewatch the Canizales knockdown more carefully if you think that was the same thing.

    Replays start around 11:42: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITdUWxoetT8

Canizales switches feet before throwing the punch (and he does it under cover of a light straight right); Galento basically switches feet while he's throwing the punch. Watch how Canizales keeps his weight under and behind his punch, and keeps his balance and stance throughout. Even though his punch is somewhat wider than a straight punch, it's still pretty tight and there's no comparison whatsoever to Galento's.

Galento turned pro on his 18th birthday and Tua at 20, so Tony was a lightheavy when he was what 16 17 18, when they were both 20 they weighed close to the same and their weights were pretty close throughout their careers

Galento was a big boned guy, an unnaturally wide guy if you look at his wrists legs etc, he wasnt just extremely fat and thats the only reason he was heavy, theres some guys that are just built like that

Side by side Tua & Galento

I wouldnt call that "pig fat at 230 pounds"

(cant find any good weigh in pics of Galento around that 245 mark vs the Baer Brothers right now)

But really while I do think Tua is larger than Galento its not by a very large amount, and if Galento trimmed down as fine as he possibly could id imagine the outcome of his physical shape wouldnt be much different to how he was in the Louis fight

david tua was naturally wider than galento with wider back, wider thorax, bigger more ripped legs(not porky legs). if you are insinuating that they were similar picking 3 photos with different zoom you are losing your time my friend.. specially in the image of louis and galento/ tua and lewis . if they were next to each other(tua and galento). tua would look much bigger than galento because louis was pretty small compared with lewis. stop talking ****. if galento had no fat he would be type like joe frazier. stocky with thick legs but farrr of being the monster that tua was.
even at 245 tua looked much better than galento looked at 230. tua at 226-230 looked perfect. galento looked a drunk fat at 230 . end of history
