This clip doesn't help the cause as you can see most either outright miss or do not even land flush. This is why the boxing community have dismissed HBO compubox numbers as the punches Pac landed may rack up points in an amateur bout, but most of the ones in the clip are not as clean, crisp or eye catching as JMM and therefore not as effective in a professional bout.

    1. I have both a work and social life so no, I'm not going to go to the trouble of creating a video and/or gif then dissecting it. There are already enough around and they have been done multiple times on ESB i.e. this thread. Of course the gifs are not enough by themselves, but I judged each 3 minute round on merit and JMM did land the better punches, defended better and utilised the ring more efficiently.

    2. a) Well considering the polls randomly posted on various popular boxing sites favour JMM then it either means most people know JMM won or Pacquiao is not the most popular boxer in the world, it is in fact Floyd since the polls heavily favour JMM. Btw I'm going with the first one. Feel free to randomly select press scores and look up who other professional boxers and/or trainers thought won.

    B) Judging by a lot of people's reactions to this threads breakdown a lot of people missed JMM's punches as well and could not see how effective he was setting up his combinations. Don't elevate Pacquiao like he is a god with special punching powers - we have two all time greats throwing punches which are missed on first viewing but watched again always favours JMM. Also JMM lands in combinations with flush hits, Pac almost lands single (mostly glancing). If Pac's defense was better and he controlled the fight then the single punches may have been enough to win.

    3) HBO compubox numbers are good for the viewer, especially for the casual fans to follow, however it should not be used to score fights. The numbers can compliment a decision and will play part in telling part of the story but does not help in showing who is landing the better eye catching punches, combinations, damage, and what punches are controlling the tempo of the fight. I key component regurarily missed is counter-punching which falls under ring generalship: Yes effective aggression is important but so is using everything to your advantage i.e. the cliche "make them miss and make them pay."

    4. Yes and no, it depends on how much damage they cause. A better way to look at it is to see how the arm/shoulder punches are being used to set up the next chain of punches. Hitting the arm or shoulder in its own is not a clean punch. The only way arm punches become a valid way of winning a round is if the opponent is not throwing anything back or they are seriously hurting their arms.

    5. We'll ask Paul Williams if his higher compubox numbers helped him beat Sergio Martinez with his lower compubox numbers.
