What boxers do you feel was getting the most out of Gift Decisions and who do you feel was on the bad end of a lot of decisions that many felt they won?
I suppose Ali of the second reign will spring to mind for some due to the closeness of the Norton III and Young title defences, As i recall Willie Jorrin had a few close escapes in his favour Many think Mike Spinks had a fairy godmother... ( with a funny hairstyle ?) in his two fights with Larry Holmes.
Tony Lopez (although a good, tough, honest fighter) always seemed to fight at home and always seemed to get the close decision. In his first fight with Rocky Lockridge, which I think Lockridge won clear, he was knocked down in the 8th round and benefitted from about a 16 count.
70s Ali...Norton & Young fights...as Kenny said, Ali could get a hometown decision in every town in the world...hard to take for some, but true nonetheless... Chris Eubank...Ray Close, Watson 1, Dan Sherry although not a points decision was controversial, the Benn rematch, Thornton may have been controversial too iirc...I've probably missed out on others of Chris's fights at the time.
Eubank has to be near the top.I feel he won most of the fights myself, but there's no doubt nearly half of his defences were controversial or close in some way.
Ali comes to mind definitely.I also understand Ray Robinson had a couple of close calls coming up through the ranks and for the title i.e Servo and Bell II.
Holmes against Witherspoon & Williams. However, he got his just-deserts in Spinks II & McCall fights.
In the first Spinks-Holmes fight, the decision went the right way, imo. Second one,the ageing 'Easton Assassin' was unlucky.
