Monzon, in my long held opinion, would have been poison for Robinson and would have decisioned him ...15 round decision...if rematched, he'd have decisioned him again.
Monzon is unknowable to most doubting fight fans...his style..his entire demeanor..especially the aforementioned "shark eyes"..was inscrutable. His damned record..his career speaks for itself. He was the best middleweight champion of all.
no. That's not my assertion at all. If you want to find my assertions about Monzon head to head you can find another post describing exactly that in this thread. Really? That's interesting. Certainly Burley would be the fastest fighter Monzon had faced of hand and foot. He lashes very hard punches across three different planes which led to a sensational record against stand up boxers. He attacked very very quickly with a judge for distance that seems to be as good as Monzon's who he also matches for reach. Basically, I feel the exact opposite. As far as styles go, I think Burley is to be favoured. none taken, as i've told you three times now it's not my list, although I kind of wish it was now.
Monzon is pretty overrated by some. But he still kicks the living **** out of Jones who is so overrated by brainless children of the nineties it isnt even funny.
He was definately effective. The one area hes underrated is his defense. The guy was like gumby, he would bend that long waiste of his in all these weird directions and it would be very difficult to hit him.
