Ten rounds, who wins and how? My thoughts? I don`t care who wins or how they do it, I just know that this would have been a fantastic fight period. I`ve been watching a lot of footage of both men recently and there is no way this fight could have turned into anything but a war of epic proportions, and I am just curious to see how others who are familiar with both fighters think this bout would have unfolded.
Don't think I've seen any Ortega atsch But I've been impressed with Turner in both fights I've seen of him :good
Turner would be the quicker of the two and would probably get the better of the early exchanges with his quicker hands out-working Ortega. But Ortega was pretty coy inside and would working that body and picking the better shots, despite being near over-whelmed. Ortega's crisper punching would probably slow down the pace of Turner by the mid-rounds and start to make Ortega's work more evident but it would still be an even fight going into the last few rounds. Could really go either way IMO
That about sums it up, not much to choose between the two of them ability wise, they both are very evenly matched against each other.
Yeh. I'd say Ortega is better technically but Turner is gifted athletically so it really is a 50-50 battle. Turner may have the strength edge though and that could be massive in this.

Odd herky jerky defence, loved the way he was stepping back and firing back. Long jab, nice uppercuts on the inside. Tell me more. The scrap with Peret looked good, did he fight the likes of Griffith as well? Why did I always think Fernandez was a black guy? Was sure I saw him fight against Dick Tiger and botth guys were black, must be tripping/misremembering!!! Ortega eemed an odd mix of a stylist and pressure fighter, some good slips and a consistent enough jab, but a willingness to swing for the fences as well! I don't like to get first impressions from Boxrec, so a resume/career synopsis would be much appreciated :good
Griffith was the only man to stop him. Their first fight is a good one, Griffith is real young in it and boxes superbly, show shis talent more than anything.
F'n 'ell. He fight any big punchers? Well, I'm always up for watching Griffith....as long as it's not the 2nd Monzon fight of course
He fought everyone at the time. Literally. Griffith is so disciplined in the early goings, boxing to Gil's orders expertly but in the later rounds he starts to mix up his pure boxing with some aggressive spurts and hard combinations. Really impressive stuff. My only fault on a young Griffith is he tended to box a bit too much and din't sit down on his shots neough or go forward. ALmost cost him against Jorge Fernandez.
Griffith is hard to rate as a puncher. Beat Paret badly as we all know, but also landed that dynamite right that felled Benvenuti in the 4th round of their contest. You think his reluctance to put venom into his shots pre-dated the tragedy then? I've seen AT LEAST highlights of all 4 Griffith-Rodriguez fights now (sweet boxing) and I have to say I cannot see Griffith really getting the better of much of the rounds I've seen. Did Ortega fight LMR?
Nah, I just don't think he'd found the right mix for his style and the natural intuition and adaption sense he would later have. He seemed to be too much of a boxer at times and boxed to instructions, to the letter. I think he was a solid puncher, especially when he was champion, he was punching real hard. Like the first KO of Paret is quality. The beating he lays on Fernandez in their third bout is brilliant, as he needed to punch hard to keep Jorge off. I don't think he became much less of a puncher after the tradgedy, I think that is overstated. I think maybe he would ease up when he hurt people but he was still a hard puncher. Don't think he did. I thought Griffith lost about 10-5 or 9-6 in the last three fights. The seocnd and third bouts were good competitive dust-up. With LMR getting a clear edge. Griffith hurt LMR afew times (and vice-versa) and I think LMR had very strong chops.
