Sad thing is he was gonna be a talent and then they over matched him in a commonwealth title fight. He got badly beaten and he was never same again. I agree with most lads on this, he probably enjoying working there because he seems a nice guy and who likes to be polite etc. It's still a shame though...good servant to the game.

He has worked hard for the cash. He is pretty much retired, only fighting in africa which will be for small amounts. So that 500k has to last him for the rest of his life.

Even if he has 300k in the bank, thats £15,000 a year if he lives to 60.

 

To be fair he may not be hard up....he could just be working to give himself something to do in life now his career is done.....a bus driver gets to meet alot of folk and I would imagine he would be security at ASDA but once again whatever job he has it would be to keep himself happy and in a routine....like the folk that win the lottery and do not give up work.

 

Its crazy isn't it... Anyone would have thought that £3,000-£4,000 max would set you up for life.

you wold expect your brother to help you out. gilbert is a decent fighter and has some worth in the boxing field. it seems a waste for all his knowledge in the game to just work at asda. i'm not against anybody hustling for a living. work everyday you have. but this is a bit of a waste of knowledge. nothing hurts more than that to me personally.

 

I agree, the fact he actually loves the sport and was a very keen and fit guy you'd like to see him work with young fighters at the least but maybe he's turned his back on the sport?....some fighters do that, remember Ingle was like it for a while. Hated the sport etc.

 

a very brave boxer, gilbert deserves better than whatever he's been dished out, whatever happened to his benifit night, boxing asks a lot of its participents, don't see many good footballers working in asdas, it takes special people to box, at all levels.

Wasnt that long ago he got busted in Guyana for drugs. Im pretty sure he hasnt spent his money wisely let alone even have any left to take care of relatives.
