Shields I agree, his striking is poor and I think GSP will work him easily with jabs and kicks then maybe finish him if he gasses. With Diaz I think the gap is much less obvious, GSP is sharper but I'd give Nick the edge in chin and finishing ability, as ever I'd say the big factor would be how the threat of the takedown from GSP effects things.

What new version of Fitch are you talking about? he looks dam near identical to the guy GSP totally dominated in all areas and beat the crap put of more convincely than anyone else he's faced recently. I'v zero desire to see that fight for a second time and I still question just how good Fitch really is, really the only big wins have been verus Alves and both of them have big question marks, the first being a much younger fighter not near his peak and the second having killed himself with an excessive cut.

You cannot right off Fitch's wins against Alves , going in to the GSP fight most people had Alves picked to beat him and look what happened , Alves was still prowling around the cage after the Fitch fight and was certainly certainly not weight drained !!!

Fitch's stand up has gone through the roof , and we all know his grappling / wrestling credentials , it was always a case of can Fitch improve his stand up and take it to another level , well for me he's done that , if you can stand in front of Thiago Alves and nullify his stand up and take hime down as you please then IMO your somebody to be reckoned with !!!

Fitch has beaten a who's who in MMA , and not just beaten them but beat them down , he makes good fighters look very bad and looks at complete ease doing it too :deal

Nick Diaz has not had the opponents to compare him with GSP its as simple as that , yes Diaz has looked impressive in against who ever SF / DREAM can pair him with but the opposition is on a whole different level in the UFC , Diaz's weakness is GSP best attribute ...................... wrestling for MMA :deal we have seen Diaz in the past struggle with these type of guys , thats the reason he left the UFC , because he felt he wasnt getting the right end of the stick on the judges scoring because he could not stop the take downs from the more talented wrestlers !!!

I dont see any other result than GSP doing to Diaz what he's done every body else @WW lately , i really dont

    No he couldn't.

Kampmann is in Fitch/Koscheck territory, he's still lightyears away from being in GSP category, everyone is. He's an evolved form. He's Matt Hughes before GSP came around, he's Royce Gracie before him.

I'm surprised anyone is still questioning Fitch. He's 19-1 at 170lbs, his sole loss being a decision to the greatest welterweight of all time, Georges St. Pierre.

And both the Alves wins are legit, simple as. They were clear results with the only controversy being the failure of Alves to make weight for the second fight, the blame for that falling squarely on his shoulders.

Besides his two wins over Thiago Alves, he holds quality wins over Ben Saunders, Mike Pierce, Paulo Thiago, Diego Sanchez and Brock Larson. Going 13-1 in a regional promotion is an impressive feat. To do it in one of the UFC's toughest divisions is awesome. Yeah, he probably couldn't finish his lunch, but his dull, grinding style has produced the goods against everyone except GSP. He deserves credit for it.

Quite simply, if Fitch isn't considered an accomplished welterweight, then nobody bar GSP and Matt Hughes can be. To slate Fitch's accomplishments is to slate the entire division.

I couldn't see how anyone could question Fitch, I just try to ignore him and hope he goes away, like an ulcer.

    According to wikipedia (questionable source):

    GSP's reach: 193 cm (76 in)
    Diaz's reach: 188 cm (74 in)

So I believe GSP would have the advantage. I just think he would be too strong physically in the clinch and on top position on the ground and even too fast standing for Diaz to be successful at anything. Although a submission would clearly be possible for Nick. I don't know THAT much on Nick Diaz though I've only seen a couple of his fights, I know he didn't impress me too much against Noons.

Alves, Koscheck and Fitch could most likely beat Nick Diaz, but that is, of course, my personal opinion. :good

Shields should be at 185. Unless of course he really did **** up the weight and he will be stronger this time around, a pure wrestler (with some admittedly solid BJJ skills) against someone as accustomed to dealing with wrestlers as GSP is really shouldn't be in with a shout.

Agree with all of this. I do think Fitch won't do any better in a rematch with GSP though.

No, and I don't know why anyone would. I love Diaz but he would get stopped via cut. GSP would just take him down and a few elbows later Nick's notoriously fraggle skin would be his undoing. Shields is going to get DEMOLISHED.

He's spent the majority of his fighting career @WW , he only jumped up to fight Lawler as SF couldnt match Robbie Lawler and Sheilds caught him in a guillotine , hence Sheilds vs Henderson , Sheilds fought the worst version of Dan Henderson MMA has ever seen and laid and prayed on him for 4 rounds after being beaten up for most of the 1st .............

Sheilds is more of a JJ practitioner than a wrestler , yes accomplished college wrestler but he's a Ceasar Gracie black belt , when you pit the two acheivements together his JJ is 3 or 4 levels above his wrestling
