Even when Gonzalez hurt him, Herrera was still landing shots.

Gonzalez is swatting at Herrera with the hook, and Herrera rolls it popping up his shoulder. Gonzalez is stepping in wild, barely planting his lead foot before loading up on a hook. Herrera touches him with a counter uppercut on the way in, but simultaneously Gonzalez also lands awkwardly on his knee bent in a bad position, which is what causes him to go down. Herrera celebrates as though he scored a knockdown, but the ref isn't counting. He read the situation correctly. Gonzalez is given some recovery time, but seems to be milking it a little, or has a very bad ankle sprain or twisted knee. Time in. HUGE uppercuts on the chin by Gonzalez, selling out, launching bombs from across the ring. Herrera is hurt. Gonzalez is pouring it on him and the ref stops him standing and firing back!

That was real man stuff.

 

Gonzalez is pretty eggshell-chinned (knocked out twice by low-level opponents, and nearly dispatched by a short notice journeyman here tonight) and doesn't have the defensive instincts or ring IQ to cover that up, but he's a damn warrior and must see TV nonetheless. :good

...and has game-changing power.

 

Gonzalez vs. countryman Jorge Páez, Jr. would be a WAR.

He loses some hetero points for resembling Jared Leto, though.
