Yeah, I was going to mention Huck, too, although he is similar to JCG in that there aren't a lot of good names.

I think CBS probably won 4 rounds, especially with his good inside work with stiff shots, but Zurdo was always a step ahead and inflicted a lot more damage and won his rounds clearer and was getting off first for the most part

Props to Billam Smith for his courage. He fought the wrong strategy but showed amazing courage. I hope he retires. Maybe has one easy farewell fight and rides off into the sunset. He has won a world championship which is an amazing feat that many good fighters haven't done. He should be proud.

Special props to Ramirez. Brilliant performance. Bring on southpaw vs southpaw vs Opetaia.

It was competetive but it wasn't close IMO, clear Zurdo win

It's safe to say Ramirez was severely weight drained at 168 and 175. Didn't he weigh 200 lbs against Bivol? :yikes:

    Excellent fair overall summary, squire.

I'm sure Mr Smythe himself would appreciate it

Well, I guess that sounds kind of counterintuitive as worded... ;)

I was simply using shorthand for "unless he gets lucky and lands a KO"... because the way he was being dominated and was gassing on his heels, I would've attributed a KO more to luck than skill.

Both I guess; it can't have been fun for Zurdo boiling himself down to such an extent and the only reason to do it was for a perceived competitive advantage, but evidently it was counterproductive.

thats why the whole weight bully nonsense is just that, nonsense. everyone has the option to campaign at whatever weight they feel they would have the most success. you dont get a handicap for genetics. if some guy can genetically drain a few more lbs without losing in other areas, better than you can, tough, hes just better genetically. its about the best at the agreed upon and contracted weight. thats what were finding out. if theres a 3 armed guy out there who can clean out a division, thats who were looking for.

    Thanks. squire

There's really no need for CBS to carry on. He's won British, Commonwealth, European, and world titles and many doubted he would even become a British champion. He's a really nice guy, has a wife and a young child, and must've earned well out of his career and his greatest assets are his chin, toughness, heart, and strength and power. Unfortunately his defence is horrible and he's too stiff and he's probably been in about 8 or 9 wars already and he's taken a ton of punishment.

Yes, Zurdo was a bad style match up for him but CBS is always going to be in gruelling wars and the smart thing to do would be to get out while he still has his his faculties intact. He looks and speaks well so he could easily move into doing punditry or commentary work

Sad for CBS as we are both from Bournemouth. I had it 117-111 for Zurdo in a good fight, CBS's style is poor against fast boxers eg Zurdo, CBS also struggled against Masternak (probably performed worse against Masternak than Zurdo to be honest). Okolie and Riakporhe suited CBS well as they were not particularly fast.

Zurdo will be a great test for Opetaia. CBS would have lost every round against Opetaia.

Not sure what is next for CBS - I could see him fighting Cieslak or Massey. Assuming Zurdo and Opetaia fight each other next, I think CBS would pose the next best challenge towards Gevor's WBC belt if it doesn't get stripped.

Also originally from Bournemouth (ish). We don’t have many/any decent boxers let alone champions and he’s done the region proud.

I disagree with others that he should retire, still money to be made. Could take some softer fights to rebuild and have a big fight afterwards. I think opetaia would probably stop him given how easy he is to hit but he still has more to give. Not the most gifted boxer but shows what hardwork and dedication can achieve. A credit to the sport and I hope he carries on.

I am really really hoping that he gets a crack at the WBC belt against Gevor but I think it may be stripped to make way for the Zurdo V Opetaia fight which is understandable.

CBS does take punishment but I think he has a couple more big fights left especially as he hasn't had that many fights overall as he started boxing late. However, if he takes one more beating worse than he did against Zurdo then he should probs hang them up.

I wonder if CBS will move to HW. Maybe so, if the WBC fight isn't there. He has had a better CW career than Okolie but the HW's is a tall order for CBS.
