Rooting for Zurdo, and gut feeling tells me Zurdo.

 

I'm calling Benavidez in this one though the weight is a bit of a question mark.

 

I really hope I can stay up long enough to watch this (and also watch Resendiz derail Munguia on the undercard.) I'm far from a Benavidez hater (I actually like him as he is usually entertaining), but there is a massive disconnect between how highly some rate him and what I seem to see. He was possibly the best SMW at the end of his campaign there; he is a good LHW but IMO a class below Bivol and Beterbiev, as evidenced by his fights with an aged Gvozdyk (where he faded considerably and lost most of the second half IMO) and Morrell (Morrell is a fighter who arguably should have lost to Hot Rod, and Benavidez simply seemed to capitalise on Morrell's passivity.) Zurdo has his limitations but he is a fully fleshed out CW now, and IMO Benavidez is not good enough to effortlessly cycle through the weights and dethrone a CW champion. I have Zurdo winning by decision; I think Benavidez will make a good start but he will fade rapidly whilst carrying the extra weight, and Zurdo will control the second half of the fight. You can get 5/1 on Zurdo winning which seems mad to me; I have banned myself from betting, but if I hadn't I would be all in on that.

That's why you will be educated once again after this fight. Everyone here talking about the weight and seemingly completely ignoring the gulf in skill and speed between the two fighters, which is no surprise because David's skills are still slept on by many. You think by comfortably beating Gvozdyk, Morrell and Yarde shows he is a class below Beterbiev and Bivol? How does that make sense? No tune ups no show case fights, his first 3 fights in the division were all strong opponents and he smacked them around. Amazing how underestimated David continues to be.

 

This is a good test for the young Capetillo

PBC is involved, Thomas Taylor is the ref and Tim Cheatam is a judge. So expect at least one card already filled out for Benavidez

 

Just my honest opinion; I have no ill will toward Benavidez and if he pulls this one off I will be happy for him. I just cannot see what Benavidez has done to be considered a heavy favourite in this one, especially considering the weight which will put him at a considerable natural disadvantage.

 

Regardless of the level of the opposition, I will never understand why any boxer would agree to a 4 round fight. Takes one KD to take the fight away from you and you suddenly have an L on the record. Proves nothing either, a 4 rounder won’t prepare a fighter for anything.

Wasn’t it a 6 rounder when Peynaud beat Benn and got jobbed on the cards?
