I'm building my boxing dvd collection and I'm looking for some classic fights to boost it. I've got Barrera career set, Taylor v Chavez 1, gatti v ward tril, some de la hoya fights, benn, eubank, watson, the 80s fab 4, ali v frasier. And whilst I've seen a lot of boxing over the last 15-20 years I'd like some recommendations please.

Or your top ten fights (which I know will have been done before but I'm new here!)

    Adios:bbb

In addition to the ones mentioned:

Golota vs Bowe I & II: brutal but entertaining fights full of action
Louis vs Galento: Action packed, exciting fight with a great finish
Liakhovic vs Brewster: A lot of changing of momentum and punch exchanges
    Lewis vs Klitschko: exciting fight
Tyson vs Biggs: Great display of breaking a fighter down
Holyfield vs Bowe I: A lot of toe-to-toe action and determination
Holyfield vs Tyson I: Especially knowing that Tyson was 22-1 fav and seen as invincible while Holyfield was considered washed up, a great watch. Definitely one of my favorites.

I started collecting 2 years ago and have over 300! keep spotting your favs, and keep your eyes and ears open for new ones as well. There was a thread on here about what fights you watched today that helped me alot in spotting new ones as well! here are a few recomendations:

Argullo Pryor are sure to be listed but equally as good is (Arguello Escalera I & II "The Bloddy battle of Bayamon" Phenomenal!) also worth checking out are Arguello vs mancini, Chacon, Limon, Olivares, Edwards

d lopez Vs Mike ayala (great slugfest)

benn McClellan (an outstanding battle unfortunately marred by tragedy)

Carbajal Gonzalez I (the others were decent but this is good!)

Chacon II-IV(I don't have I so can't recommend that) also good are Chacon vs Edwards I & II, D Lopez

Chavez vs Tony The Tiger lopez & Rocky Lockridge

Duran vs deJesus Trilogy (maybe the best trilogy out there!)

Jeff Fenech Azumah Nelson I (2nd fight is OK, but this is up close and constant)

Gomez vs Pintor (also good are Gomez vs Nelson, Sanchez)

hagler Mugabi (although to be fair I like any Hagler fight)

Ismael laguna (under rated I have fights w/ Buchanan, ortiz and ramos)

Rocky Lockridge vs Tony The Tiger Lopez I & II great slugfest

Matthew saad muhammaad vs Yaqi Lopez I & II (LHW slug fest back and forth!)

Meldrick taylor vs McGirt or Aaron davis (his 2 best performances in my eyes)

Pintor vs Murata (also good is Murata vs Chandler)

Holyfield vs Qawi I (battle at cruiser weight, awesome)
Holyfield vs Dokes (maybe the best HW fight of the last 20-25 years???

Salvador Sanchez vs Azumah nelson (always makes my top 10 list) also good are Sanchez vs Lopez I & II and Gomez

Zarate vs zamora (4 rds but well worth it!

Quarry vs frazier 2 HW's just trying to out macho each other
Quarry vs Lyle and Foreman Lyle are also worth checking out!

    Good luck

No offense Dempsey but ranking Burns-Obrien as a classic is odd. Thats twenty rounds of Obriend literally running from Burns. Imagine the last 2 - 4 rounds of DLH-Trinidad but multiplied to 20 rounds. For those that havent seen it Im not exagerating. There was an agreement before the fight that Burns wouldnt try to hurt Obrien when they met at ring center for final instructions Burns said "the deal is off" and Obrien ran for his life for twenty rounds. Its a horrible "fight".

Most of the bouts listed in this thread are excellent choices and a must for any fight film library. On that note here are some other fights some of which while not mainstream or well known for that matter are terrific scraps, hidden classics if you will. Here goes:

    Bruce Curry vs Monroe Brooks
Myung Woo Yuh vs Oh-Kon Son
    Joey Archer vs Holly Mims
    Kelvin Seabrooks vs Thierry Jacob
Alberto Davila vs Frankie Duarte II
    Art Hafey vs David Sotelo
    Bobby Chacon vs Art Frias
Tony DeMarco vs Virgil Akins I
    Chatchai Chionoi vs Masao Ohba
Vicente Saldivar vs Howard Winstone III
Rolando Navarette vs Bazooka Limon, Chung Il Choi
    Frank Fletcher vs Ernie Singletarry
Floro Fernandez vs Gaspar Ortega II
Eduardo Lausse vs Gene Fullmer, Marcel Pigou
    Mando Ramos vs Sugar Ramos
Antonio Avelar vs Wilfredo Vasquez (rd5 is in my top 3 of best rounds ever)

I can recommend several more, but then again just about anyone can so I`ll leave it at that.

  13. theres one i'm thinking of, can't remember it for the life of me though. It was a cruiser?!?! contest in which both fighters we knocked down. I think it happened in the late 80's/ early 90's.

  14. Oh yes, one that no-one really mentions, due to antipathy towards Flyweight fights, but try to find a video of Kittikasen-Jimenez. That fight is a true great.

Your thinking of the Chrisanda Mutti/Lee Roy Murphy fight, the one with the double KD in the final round.
