Undefeated middleweight contender Giovanni ‘Chico Malo’ Lorenzo (24-0, 16 KOs) battles heavy-handed veteran Sherwin Davis (18-4-12 KOs) this Saturday in support of the HBO welterweight doubleheader featuring IBF champion Kermit Cintron against challenger Walter Matthysse plus fan favorite Arturo Gatti against “The Contender” Alphonso Gomez at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. This will mark the sixth time that Lorenzo has fought on an undercard that featured his ring mentor Arturo Gatti. "Arturo is one of the greatest fighters of our time. He is the reason why I have had so many recent knock outs. Fans want to see action in the ring and Arturo provides lots of action,” said Lorenzo. Lorenzo has knocked out eleven of his last twelve opponents.
Lorenzo hopes a victory on Saturday will expedite a showdown with fellow contender John Duddy. Duddy is also fighting this Saturday in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland against journeyman Alessio Furlan (19-8-5, 8 KOs). “I want to fight Duddy,” Lorenzo stated to FightNews. “It would be an all action fight. We are both at the top of our game now and the winner would be recognized as the true heir apparent to the middleweight championship crown. I’ll fight Duddy in Ireland or at The Garden! This is a mega fight that would sell out The Garden --The ‘Chico Malo’ against “The Fighting Irishman.”

If his face-off with Duddy doesn’t happen, the top contender is ready for a world title opportunity this year. “If (Jermaine) Taylor doesn’t fight (Kelly) Pavlik, then I’ll fight Taylor. I’m ranked #3 in the WBC and Taylor is the WBC champion. I’ll fight any of the champions. I’m #9 in the WBO, #8 in the IBF, and #14 in the WBA. I’ll fight Taylor in Little Rock, I’ll fight IBF champion Arthur Abraham and WBA champion Felix Strum in their backyard of Germany,” proclaimed Lorenzo. “ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE!”[/SIZE]
