Props to him for taking this challenge, the biggest in the sport right now unless some one shuts me up. Hate his antics throughout the recent years but I will give him full respect/credit for facing Dawson again as long as he's not searching for a way out. Even if it's a beating but doubt it as Dawson fights at a slow pace, as Hopkins does. Calzaghe and Taylor made Hopkins fight at a rhythm he wasn't comfortable at as Pascal did to an extent in the first fight but got bullied in the rematch. Never will there be another Hopkins but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the first fight. Even if he was somehow hurt he has a history of flopping so it's a case of "boy cries wolf". If he even comes to fight I'll be impressed especially if he pulls off a win.

I was wondering that too. Of course Hopkins is not sturdy at old especially being 47 but it did look like he was looking for a way out.

    Dip**** alert!

Hopkins took a ****ing DIVE the first fight.

His "determination" which you speak of is nothing more than desperately trying to cash another check off of boxing fans before he crawls back into his hole.

"Going in there" and getting tons of fans money to fall down and roll around the mat for 5 mins doesn't deserve respect.

He earns respect only once he has actually fought a legitimate match. There is a good chance he pulls the same type of **** again. With Hopkins there is just as much a chance he will intentionally turn his back to his opponent and then drop in a heap when he is hit with a glancing blow to the back as actually finishing a legitimate fight. Not to mention he will pull every illegal tactic known to man out before whatever ending does finally happen. Meh.

if you were near 50 andup against a prime twentysomething powerhouse, would you not use some dirty tricks or would you prefer to end up KOed in round one? yeahh...You'd take a GUN against him, thats how dirty you'd be!

Tbf, he shouldnt be in the ring anyway.

Ditto, don't understand how he gets away with his nonsense and people still respect him.

And I wouldn't be so quick to give him props for agreeing to the rematch until he's in the ring. Its quite blatantly obvious Hopkins doesn't want to fight Chad but is desperately doing his best to fool the public here.

This can only go two ways, Hopkins pulls out for one reason or another or he fouls like mad in the ring/fakes injury and tries to get another DQ. Considering he used up the second option already in the initial bout its got to be a late pullout.

Hopkins is a special fighter. A lot of people dislike him (and they have valid reasons), but we're not going to see a 47 year old doing this kind of stuff for a while. It'd be like Andre Ward fighting top opposition and beating most of them in 2031.

You know I've read through this thread and many others regarding Bernard Hopkins.
Give the man his dues. Nard is a top 5 ATG. How many guys 10 yrs younger than him can put the fear of devastating defeat in the minds of in their prime top contenders ??
I read you people who say Calzaghe beat Hopkins ? I say BULL****!! Slappy didnt land 25 LEGITIMATE scoring punches all fight long. Add to this the fact that Hopkins offered to rematch Calzaghe in WALES!!! In front of his hometown fans. What did Calzaghe do??
He chickened out & RETIRED!!! to save his 0
Hopkins is one of the greatest ever Calzaghe is a wannabee with the cojones of a gnat :scaredas:

whilst I have no doubt that BHop would have decisioned Calzaghe when he was in his prime, I dont think you can dispute that BHop marginally lost beacuse he couldnt do nothing after round 6, he simply couldnt hack the pace at his age and dually lost a split decision..even though Cal slapped a lot in those later rounds, Bhop wasnt fit enough to do anything in return therefore the slapper won fair and square.

Fair enough, Joe Cal was a bit 'cowardly' in a relative sense, he'd never rematch if he knew he might get beaten. He wanted to remain unbeaten., thats why he picked crap fighters for his defences.

Reverse their ages of course, Bhop would have knocked Cal clean out.

shut your piehole you dome-headed ****ing dweeb :nono

hopkins disgraced the sport in his 1st fight with dawson, robbing fight fans of hard earned money with yet another feigned injury just like his cringeworthy exit against robert allan :deal

lets not forget this huge duck from hopkins (below) for a career high pay day in 2002, instead hopkins chose to fight hakar for a quarter of the money, so take your pathetic fanboy views and get the **** off of my forum
