Give Calzaghe a break! The guy's 36! He's proven himself and can fight whomever...

He has fought Kessler at 35, for chrisesake! What more do you want? He laid it all on the line and gave his life-time best performance, to prove to himself, to his fans and his critics that he is the man at SMW and a truly great fighter, AT 35, when he could have retired, instead. Wasn't that enough?

Of course Calzaghe would go on fighting the best if he felt he could, but he doesn't! The Hopkins fight was a wake-up call for him. He just cannot do it anymore, at the highest level; it's too risky. What's wrong with him cashing in in one last fight against a fighter that like RJJ? If you don't want to see it, don't watch it! Just give the guy a break! He's not in the market for raising the bar anymore; he's on the veterans' ciruit now, just trying to cash in before the long goodbye. If he himself accepts that why cannot you?

Holy sh*t Decebal, I was just about to open the same thread! Good points mate (stop ignoring my avatar, live with it)! :deal Of course you're gonna get more than a few aggressive replys for the thread but Geez... he's 36 and only 7 month have passed since he beat a young, fresh, strong champion in Kessler - why is it his obligation to boxing to beat another one - coming from a lower weight class with a bit of less talent than Mikkel... Calzaghe-Jones is huge!

Bloody hell...Someone's finally talking some sense!
The guy's been champion 10 Years + cleaned out his division, I think he's earned the right to pick his 'final' fight.

Yes...he thought he had one really great bar-raising performance in him left. He realised in the meantime that was no longer the case. In any case, it's not like Pavlik or Dawson are proven, top p4p fighter. Kessler was the legacy fight for Calzaghe. Kessler was proven. Pavlik and Dawson are not proven to the same extent, even if they are sometimes considered better, whether rightly or wrongly. There is no reason to assume that he's not fighting Pavlik because he feels h couldn't beat him. My point is, though, that Calzaghe deserves to pick whomever he wants for his fare-well fight. There's nothing left for him to prove! This fight is about money and about leaving the scene with a good feeling of personal satisfaction. If RJJ provides that, good for him.

Well... back then Calzaghe talked... now money talks!

BTW I'd like to see bith Joe vs. Jones and Pavlik... but if he'll have one farewell fight, and chooses Roy (who's as big a threat for Joe as Kelly - there you go, I've said it) well, it makes business sense (UK PPV revenue) and if Pavlik ends up fighting Abraham in the meantime, I can live with that. And the winner of the two can still fight each other if Joe wins and decides to have another last fight.

Hoya said he will never fight Floyd. But most boxers lie anyway. **** Calzaghe fought his best friend, so what makes him not want to fight Jones
