Rocky and him actually sparred at one time. The stories that come out of that camp make Hurricane sound like a psycho.

Janitor, the only reason there's been a 'handful of men' to do so, is because there's only been a 'handful' of weak eras.

Marciano's consistency is to be admired. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say otherwise.

I have spoken to the power dynamics between black fighters and a white press. Obsequiousness was the rule of the day, even for a desperate Ali, who was also throwing a verbal jab at his nemesis Frazier, who was doing likewise.

You are defending the opposite which reveals your complicity in the white supremacist power structure.

Agreed. Holmes was the first person to point out the double standards and excessive praise and people hated him for it. Boy oh boy did it burn them up when he beat Gerry Cooney.

Nothing on you Seamus, but it's just too bad that this kind of stuff is even on a boxing forum.

No, you lose, because you are talking against Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, etc.

God, I hope you are just some sick internet troll who jerks off to saying dumb things. Otherwise you are a racist for what you said about black fighters of the 30s-70s. I am going to bookmark this thread and share with everyone whenever necessary what a cretin you are.

    Really, kick rocks.

He should not have been allowed to box because he was mentally deficient.

Holmes pretty much ignored five or six co-champions throughout his reign. He was also looking for as many soft touches as he could get away with after Cooney, and was quite open about it.

just on Nino Valdes, here are the actual NBA ratings from the time of Valdes appeared in them in 1953 to Marciano's retirement.

    10-13-1953
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Dan Bucceroni
    2--Ezzard Charles
    3--Roland LaStarza
    4--Nino Valdes

    1-9-1954
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Ezzard Charles
    2--Nino Valdes
    3--Dan Bucceroni
    4--Roland LaStarza

    4-13-1954
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Ezzard Charles
    2--Nino Valdes
    3--Don C-ckell
    4--Roland LaStarza

    7-5-1954
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Ezzard Charles
    2--Nino Valdes
    3--Don C-ckell
    4--Roland LaStarza

    10-7-1954
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Nino Valdes
    2--Ezzard Charles
    3--Don C-ckell
    4--Jimmy Slade

    12-28-1954
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Nino Valdes
    2--Ezzard Charles
    3--Don C-ckell
    4--Bob Baker

    4-6-1955
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Nino Valdes
    2--Ezzard Charles
    3--Don C-ckell
    4--Bob Baker

    7-7-1955
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Archie Moore
    2--Nino Valdes
    3--Bob Baker
    4--Don C-ckell

    10-6-1955
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Bob Baker
    2--Nino Valdes
    3--Hurricane Jackson
    4--Ezzard Charles

    1-16-1955 & 4-4-1956
    Rocky Marciano
    1--Bob Baker
    2--Nino Valdes
    3--Hurricane Jackson
    4--John Holman

For the NBA, Valdes was not ranked as the #1 contender until after the second Charles fight. Valdes was a higher rated contender than Don C-ckell, #3 in the NBA ratings, in early 1955. Nino's problem was that two other contenders seeking shots at Marciano, Moore and Baker, held wins over him.
